Hi - would like to join the seemingly exclusive Tamora ownership club.

What should I look for when test driving it? You know, the stuff that only an owner with a few K under their belt would know.

Thanks, James.

First advice would be to spend a couple of hours trawling through this forum - there's more information there than will come out in one thread and this question has been asked and answered before.

Having said that, the main things I would look at buying a used Tamora are:

Cross check number of owners, mileage, service documentation, etc and make sure all mileage and time on the road is accounted for.

Check the front spoiler for damage or cosmetic repairs - doesn't take much of knock to split the horizontal join.

Are the doors closing cleanly? Not much of a problem many don't, but it's a negotiation point if there is scratched paint.

Are all joins clean, especially the bonnet which can rub on the surround. It's normal to have rubber inserts to prevent rubbing.

Check all the electronic functions, heating, air con, lights, instrumentation. Take your time...

Look closely at all the leather/vinyl on seats and dash - any gouges or holes?

Talk to the previous owner about how it's been used and their understanding of proper warm up procedure. Have them drive you first to see what their procedure is for warming up before revving the nuts off it.

Get the name of the technician in the dealer they use and talk to that person about the car. Check the service history with them if you have any doubts about the documentation.

Any extended warranty? Check the detail to see what is covered. Warranty Holdings is deceased so their policies aren't worth anything now.

Ask the owner not to start it before you arrive so you can hear it started from cold.

Check for even tyre wear. Does tyre wear and stone chips on the bonnet correlate to mileage?

Check all panels in good light - same colour? If one panel has no chips on it at all and the one next to it does, has it been resprayed? Why?

Get the owners name and previous owners names and trawl through these forums - there's good chance you'll find some posts from them which can be revealing.

Hope this helps - I think the Tamora is a fantastic car and used ones are exceptional value compared to other perfromance cars and all other late model TVRs IMO.

No problem - I wasn't trying to make a point about it.
