Hi all,

We are off to France next week in the Tamora, and I'm told it's compulsory to fit converters to the headlights - is this so, and do 'normal' ones work on faired in lights?

From memory of driving in France to Le Mans a few years ago, I can't recall many GB cars having them and most of my driving will be during the day...but I might be wrong and I don't want to p off Les Rozzers too much!

Any help/advice is as ever appreciated.

Patrick.

Yes, I'm wondering about this as well, with Eurohoon coming up.

I bought a set of headlamp convertors from Halfords, bundled with a GB sticker - when I got home, I found out that reading th packet helps - the sticker is a bloody magnetic one!! Won't even stick to my other car - an all-aluminium Audi A8. D'oh!!!

It can't be easy to fit them to a Tamora with the headlight covers. I've never bothered myself because a) I think you'd be unlucky to get pulled for it, b) I've never been particularly aware of getting dazzled by left-hook cars in the UK (which I'm sure don't all have these stickers) so can't imagine it's that dangerous for other cars, and c) it's a summer holiday so how many night driving hours are you going to do?

I guess in the end it depends on how squeaky clean you want to be... if its going to make your buttocks clench every time you see a gendarme then it's probably worth doing something about it

So anyone got any idea where abouts to stick them? I'm assuming the list of models you get with the don't include TVR's and last time I used some I remember there being all sorts of odd configurations for different models. Some upside down / back to front and some that were different for near / offside.

thanks Don,

That's pretty much as I expected.

I note from one of your earlier posts that you've just come back from France after a trouble free run. Good to hear it!

The Tam is going brilliantly at the moment, and I can't wait to give it a good brisk run on the autoroutes. I've heard the French love TVRs too so I'm sure the journey will be a lot of fun.

The French are stunned by TVRs which isn't surprising when you see the drudge they get to look at on the roads normally. In 3 days we saw nothing more exotic than a couple of boggo 911s and a TT. The MX-5 owners club meeting in Bouillon didn't exactly get the pulse racing either...

Ive just returned from france, and have been also living in italy for the last 4 months, during which time i actually never fitted beam dsflectors, instead, i just ajusted the lights a bit lower on one side (passenger) and it seemed to do the trick. also, just buy a set but keep them in the boot incase you do have problems with the plod.

Cheers again.

Bit bonkers with what's going on with my three other postings. I'm not doing it to make me (or my thread) look any more popular!

I think the IT dept are about to get a call...

When we were in France(/Italy/Switzerland) a couple of months ago with the Tamora, I just put a few strips of insulation tape on each of the headlight covers - more to show willing, as even the factory couldn't offer a 'proper' solution to deflect the beam. A few cars flashed me over the 4 weeks, but never any other problems.

Be carefull with other types of adhesives, on a previous car i made my own with vynil and it cracked the plastic after a while when using the head light for long drives.
