Done one wet track-day at Croft on F1s and no surprises or drama. Impressed...

Been running F1's on the Supra for the past 5 years, first in GSD2 guise and now on the rears I have the GSD3's.

very good tyres.

Interesting... I've just put some Goodyear Eagle GSAs on the rears of the Tamora, and they seem to have altered the balance of the car, but I can't decide whether it's good or bad!

The increase in slow speed grip is astounding, but at high speeds in long corners the car seems to drift - it's more of a feeling of drift rather than reality, because grip levels remain superb. Anyone encountered this sort of feeling? I'm running 25psi all round.

I think I might have to peel off the Toyos and replace them at the front as well, to regain the balance. (A shame, as they still have loads of tread left.)

Nubbin,

I put F1 GSD3's on the back and the car has become very unstable at high speed (well it feels unstable anyway). If you change the fronts as well, I'd be very interested to know if it makes a difference.

Thanks
Paul

Ours in new and its on goodyears, its performance is aswesome. Run ours at 24psi as stated in the new manual. In the wet they are awesome too.

Slightly OT. Anyone know the difference between the D2's and D3's as D3's don't seem available in 15" rims for the older Tivs . Even better anyone have experience of both care to comment .

I think I'l have to replace the Toyos at the front to rebalance the car. This could get expensive!!

It sounds like Goodyears all round are very safe and secure, so it must be a bad combination of the different tread compounds that's unsettled the car- ah well, another wasted £300!!

What's the tyre size at the front - is 225/35 z18 correct?

Sounds right - that's the size of my T350 fronts anyway.

The bad news is that Godyear GSA is not made in 225/35 size, so my choice now is to either stick Toyos on the back again, or try GSD3s on the front to see if they match up to the GSAs, and if not replace the rear GSAs as well. Blimey, it's bad enough at £120-130 a tyre, without wasting an extra £300!!

GSD2's were replaced by the D3's.

Patterns were similar although the D3 has a more sweeping tread pattern.

I've got D2's on the front of my Toyota and D3's on the back. Because I couldn't get D2's anymore (I only needed one for the rear) I had to get a pair of D3's, so I have one nearly new D2 sitting in the garage as a spare.

For the 205/60 S tyre it's a lot easier to switch to the 205/55 tyre size. Do a search on S, Chimp or Wedge forums - they all have the same problem.

As an update to my previous problems with the cars handling when I changed the rears to Eagle F1's.
I put a set of F1's on the front a couple of weeks ago and the handling has been transformed. It's now rock solid throught the corners and feels much more sorted.
Spoke to someone who suggested the problem could have been because the Avons have rigid sidewalls and the F1's are softer, so this could have caused the vagueness in the corner.

If I have F1s and the manual states 28, do I simply have an old manual? In reality I'm running 26-27 (except when a pothole put the left front down to 0 and I didn't notice until I got home )

Paul Davies, interesting to hear that. The test car I drove had toyo's and I must say I think the Goodyears feel better.

I just nipped out to check and yes 24 on 18" wheels on Goodyear F1 tyres is what it states. It says you can raise it for track days mind.

I reluctantly put a new set of Toyo's on the rears, to replace the Goodyear GSA's and the handling was, like PD's, totally transformed! I went on Eurohoon, and the car was absolutely superb, and kept up with everything there (even if I had to change down to 4th to keep up with the 911 Turbo, whilst he stayed in 6th gear! ).

Round the multiple hairpins and short straights, I was leaving the Tuscans and Chimaeras for dead, and the ACT exhaust was wailing it's head off! (Everyone commented that it sounded in' awesome!!)

The Tamora can really handle very impressively, and the grip and handling was commented on by a Tuscan owner who rode with me.

The top speed is probably 165, as I got to 150 on the autobahn, and was pulling around 5500 revs, so with windows up, and redlining at 6500 (that's where the torque starts to drop) I reckon 165 is achievable, 170 maybe with a bit of luck. It felt rock steady anyway!

24 just sounds so low! On my last car the pressure was about 32 on 16", and when I changed to 18" wheels, was told you should increase by about 1psi for each inch?

nubbin - how do you actually get round the hairpins with the atrocious steering lock? Booting it, or 3 point turns?

It was fine, although there might have been a little bit of accidental oversteer officer!

On the move there was no problem - but low speed manouevering was the usual chore....
