OK, I did it, ordered the Pioneer Avic X1 for just under £1400, (must be mad!!!) Halfrauds are selling it for £2199!!!! Even ebay was more expensive!
If I bought the back up camera, where would be the best place to install it? (can't see anything when reversing in the Tam!!)

Chris (who's dash will soon be looking like the starship Enterprise,, Make it so!! lol)

Hope it fits!

Looking at the photos I have seen...the front wouldn't open if installed in my car.

I also thought about a camera. but could see no where obvious to fit one and more importantly see no where the heat build up was not huge! I was thinking the zertec device but there site is never uptodate and the dealer reckons its not much cop.

I did find this mind:

www.phantom.uk.net/espreversingsensor.htm which can be combined with there movement detector. There TVR friendly fitter is just down the road at Stroud!

That unit looks excellent - let us know how the fitting goes. Hopefully it will clear the gearlever OK.

The price you mention is really good too!

Maddog, I too have reservations about the camera, the only way, as far as I can see, of fitting it is to drill a hole in the Tam's butt!!! Something I am far from happy with, as, if I want to part ex it in the future, I would either have to leave the camera in place, or get the hole plugged/filled!
The reversing sensor looks ok though, how much are they?
I have been quoted silly money for installation for the uniy (£300!!!!), but have not phoned the guy in Stroud, who is he?

Have ordered this speed sensor with the package http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/product_info.php+products_id+2732+RCsid+ce9d22fcbd7414f313aba4eacfc55d5c

Thought I may need it, would I be correct?
Had another look at the reversing camera, and there is nowhere it can go, I assume it fits near the number plate on most cars, but would get fried very quickly if it was positioned there in our Tams!!!

That's so cool and a good price too. I wanted one of these but someone posted that the gear stick would get in the way of it opening so I didn't bother. Am soooo jelous now! Well done, let us know all about it when it's installed. Oh and, by the way, live long and prosper. Beaming up......

I just went down to the garage to measure the distance between the head unit and gear stick again, it will be fine , it is the same distance, incidentally as the Chim head unit and gearstick!

i did an update to the post here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=119185&f=7&h=0
it all works fine, and has already got me home on a few occasions, by using the 'return home' button . It's very easy to use, and the voice guidence is very clear and gives you plenty of time to get into the right lane.
I got it istalled (plus tweeter fitting and hard wireing the Road angel at the same time) for £150 at a Pioneer car audio dealer, very painless
