Got my new tomtom yesterday. Very impressed with it and how simple it is to use. In fact it's a lot better than the factory fitted system I had in my previous Jag and much more accurate. The main problem I have experienced is that it takes a bit of time to find itself when starting and also I haven't found an ideal place/way to mount it. At the moment I stick it to the wind screen (suction pad) and then remove it when I don't need it. But... so far so good.

Cool
I have the exact same prom with my Road Angel 2 when turning on for the first time, sometimes it can take 10 mins to find a signal!
I almost went for Tom Tom, but I figured the dash would look just too cluttered with 2 lots of cables coming from the cigar lighter double socket!
I have now settled for the Pioneer Avic X1, and am waiting for Cheltenham Car Hi Fi Centre to ring back for a quote . I will also ask them if they can hardwire a cable for my Road Angel too , oh yes, and fit the tweeters I was too scared to fit myself!! lol

I was looking at one of these a couple of weeks ago but I decided that it would obstruct too much of my vision if I stuck it to the windscreen.

Is the sucker powerful enough to fix it to the dash? Somewhere to the left, before the glove compartment, and where it's less cluttered?

Because all TVRs have no plastic on the dash, forget either the suckers or the sticky pad which is meant to secure the unit in place, as soon as the dash gets hot, it falls off, (I Know!!!!, and not funny if travelling at speed!) The suckers do stick to the windscreen like glue though

Actually I was thinking of sticking it to the dash just bottom left of the steering wheel (with the sticky pad on the underside below the air vent so that it doesn't show). This way the unit should rest neatly on the edge of the little shelf which would also hide most of the connection wire from the cig lighter socket. The only problem is that the screen will be slightly obscured by the steering wheel whilst driving. However, now you have said that the heat may cause it to drop off, I'm not sure I will attempt it. By the way, if the sticky pad does fall off - does it at least come off the dash clean or does it leave sticky black marks? The more I think about it, the more I may get it profesionally fitted and hard wired. But where?

The sticky pad, (on the Road Angel 2 at least), does come off clean, I initially thought that the pad was very secure, and checked beforehand, but, once things started 'hotting up', the whole Road Angel unit fell off and landed in my lap, doing 70!!! It also fell off again when braking, not even harshly!
I have since used the windscreen mount, which works fine.
You can get your Tom Tom cable hardwired at any decent car audio specialist, (wouldn't trust Halfords, however with a TVR!!!)
