Tamora to T350 and vice versa
Discussion
Hi Piston Heads,
I've had my Tamora for a year now and I still love it.
I'm toying with the idea of swapping to a T350. The jury is still out.
I've had a test drive of one last weekend (a 1 year old - not the one I'm thinking of getting) and the only noticeable difference is the stiffness and the lack of convertibleness – even maybe claustrophobiaish… (Even the t version doesn’t make it a convertible – well, you know what I mean….)
After saying that, my 14000 Tamora engine seems more, well, how can I say it… errr… rougher? (the other half claims its about to blow up but I told her no!) But it’s responsive and willing to pull much harder with an even louder thudding noise from the exhaust whilst the 8300 mile T350 was much smoother in the rev range but didn’t give the “kick” I expected but the exhaust still made the "popping" on demand in the right places.
BTW: I though the engine mapping for the T350 was different.
I know it’s a personal choice, but, if you have taken the plunge and converted from one to the other or even drove the half brother…, I would appreciate your thoughts and feelings.

Hi Paul. I made the change. Had a tamora for 12 months, and then fell in love with the T350 when it was launched.
Loved the Tamora, as really prefer the open top motoring, but the T350 just was so right, if you know what I mean.
I do really miss the open top motoring if i'm honest, but still love the T350 to bits. It is a lot stiffer that the Tamora, and can be a bit tiresome on back roads. However. once you get going and open it up, the ride is fantastic.
I would also agree with your comments about the engine. The Tamora's sounded like a bag of spanners when cold, but once warmed up was fine. The engine in the T350 though dose seem a lot smoother even from cold.
It is personal choice as you say, and I am sure that I will go back to an open top again, at a later date, but have absolutely no regrets.
If it feels right, Go for it

I swapped a 2002 Tamora for a 2003 Tamora ... long story. Anyway, the engine in the first one sounded like a tractor cold and wasn't much better when warm, whereas the later engine was perfect cold and even better warm. I'm no expert but perhaps they improved the engines in the later cars or it's just a question of luck?

And I'm now driving Nigel's old bag of spanners
- not finding it too bad though.
Nigel - don't you think a big part of the difference with your T350 is simply down to the fact you're sitting in a hard top car now? I'm surprised by how much quieter (relatively speaking) the Tamora is with the roof up

Agree, I drove a T350 and other than it being darker in the cabin it felt just like sitting in my Tamora!
I think the T350 is stunning but then I think the Tamora is too and at this moment having a convertible is the most important factor!
My Tamora is in the garage with the roof in the boot and i need to go out - but its raining hard.
Time to attempt roof extraction and placement in a confined space.
Hi.. went from Tamora to T350t and the most immediate difference for me was that the T350 was smoother and yes slightly stiffer.. seems more stable at high speeds too! looking at the two cars together, the T350 looks much fresher in design which was the decisive factor for me to exchange the Tam for the T350... and definitley gets more compliments.....

I have also gone from a 2002 Tamora to a June 2004 T350T RR. I do miss the full convertible effect sometimes.
However the Targa with open windows and roof is still pretty good. I also think it looks even better than the Tamora. Many more positive comments to the T350 here in Germany as well.
The hatchback is a real boon.
The speed six engine is much smoother than in my Tamora although not as wild.
The chassis stiffness is great with very little body roll but I think I may have to switch to Nitrons as the ride is too hard and fidgety compared to the Tam.
I have the feeling the front needs constant adjustment in long curves.
The Tuscan S brakes are great even better than the Tuscan S set I had on my Tam which tended to lock up too soon at the rear.
