I really do wish these cars had a simple one-piece roof as on all MX-5's, MGF's etc - it would be so much easier to drop or raise when necessary, wouldn't take up half the boot space, and wouldn't be so bloody awkward! It really does put me off taking the roof down for short journies, which is a real shame
My question is - is there any way to wedge this thing in the boot without dislodging the rubber reals from their groove? I've re-seated them, and the very first time I put the roof in the boot, they're out again!

Really - I am surprised you find it a pain, the roof design is one of the many* inspired solutions that TVR have used over the years.
HAve to say that the roof seal problem was common to my Griff, so I really do think it's a case of TADTS. Funny what you put up with, though, in a TVR!
(*The brilliance of the security of having the lock in the body instead of in the door, still gets me. And then they do it in a convertible!!! Brilliant! )

I know exactly what you mean! The way I put the panel in the boot is to put the right side in first in a sharp-ish downward motion and then slide it underneath the right side of the boot while lowering the left side into place (of course you can do it the other way round if you prefer). The secret is to get one side of the panel snuggly in its place before lowering the other side into place. It works for me. Hope this makes sense.

I too wish the roof was the same as my MGFs I had, I could put the roof up or down without even getting out of the car in 5 seconds flat!
I am perplexed by the people who defend TVR's method, as I have scratches around the boot area where I try to put the damn thing in, (I am VERY careful when putting the top into the boot), but no matter how careful you are, you still end up either ripping the rubber seals off, then catching the carpet on the underside of the boot, and to top it all,, the hood fabric starts to look very worn because of the way it's stowed!
A method like the MG would make perfect sense, cheaper to replace, makes the car slightly lighter, and we could have the roof off when going on holiday with bags in the boot! I too cannot be bothered with the hassle of trying to put the panel in the boot on short journeys,
Having said all that, I love the Tam, and wouldn't swap it for anything else out there

A couple of things to help.
1. You can put spacers behind the gas strut to allow the boot lid to open further and this helps a lot.
2. If you look under the rubber strip you can see the screws at either end. If you take these out and put them back in but through the rubber strip it will hold it in place.
3. Cover the bits of carpet in the boot with some smooth tape. this helps the rubber slide in and out better so its not pulled out.
Hope this is of use.

Might try something other than tape on the carpet though, would have though it might ruin the carpet a bit? Someone should make a fitted plastic liner.
Agreed. It is a pain in the arse having to get out of the car to take the roof off and like you I often don't bother for short journeys.
On the plus side the roof arrangement enables us to have a targa-top option as well as a full-convertible.
We also benefit from having a hard-top which doesn't bulge like MGFs do when driving at speed with the roof up.

I had the boot mod done as part of the pdi. I also bought a leven bag, and between the two I have no issues with the seals coming off or putting it in and out of the boot. Its so much easier with the bag!
Best thing I have bought, after the car!
Even better news I am just 1 plane journey and about 15 hours away from collecting it again! Great!
