I am seeing an interesting and intermittent quirk with the LCD display on my Tamora and was wondering if anyone else has seen similar things. On long journeys, particularily when using the lights, the LCD dims over time to the point where it becomes unreadable. The only solution is to turn the ignition off and on. Also sometimes if you turn on dipped beam and then off at a leter stage, the LCD will never return to the correct brightness/contrast setting until the ignition is turned off and on ie it stays at the main beam setting. I have V6.0 of the software ( the latest ) and my dealer had a look at it when it went in for its 1K service, but couldn't find anything.

no, never had that problem. Sounds like you need the factory to have a look.

Thanks for the input. Just got back from touring cars at Silverstone and this time the graphics went all screwy, until I reset via my usual procedure. I suppose it could be software or the LCD itself. Is anyone without problems running 6.0 also ?

Another thing along the same lines has anybody experimented with any kind of no reflective film over the dials so that the LCD is readable when the sun is out and roof off ! This is a major design flaw in my opinion, why they didn't use non reflective perspex and black on white for the LCD is beyond me. Without being able to read the LCD you have no idea what the water temps are etc and the one time when this is of most concern is when its hot ie when the suns out and the roof is off

Entirely agree with your last point - the reflections are a nuisance.

I think the early tuscans had this problem.
Phone the factory as I doubt your dealer would know much about it.

Good luck

I am running version 6 and as to date have had no problems with it as you have described. Only done 1000 odd miles in it so maybe too early to say, in for service 2morrow.

Havent got that problem with v6.0 but mine doesn't have the display memory (choice of readout rather than set-up) it should have according to the handbook. Have to flick through the displays to the one I use every time I start it. Is this right?

Same here, the display is always the first one, irrespective of the one you're using when you last switched the engine off.
Doesn't really bother me as the first one is the one I mostly use anyway.
Cheers..... Andrew

thanks. guess the handbook is only a guide......
Speaking of which it only gives 16" tyre pressures. Who knows them for 18" Tamora? Factory hasnt replied, dealer doesnt know.

frostie, I have literally just got back from a 700 mile round trip to Devon and back, after the first service. The car has behaved perfectly, until this afternoon.
I also have version 6, and it appeared to be ok, but the LCD read out went totally mad this afternoon. It was comming on and then the screen went blank, then it would come back on, but only half the numbers were visible. Stopped the car and switched everything off, and re started, and all was OK. Will be keeping eye on it. It was very heavy rain comming back, and upon checking the carpets, yes, your've guessed, wet everywhere, in particular passengers footwell, and corner of the boot, again nearside. Drivers side is bone dry, both in car and boot.
That aside, now done 1800 miles, and car is FANTASTIC

Same as you ! I have just got back from France and driven through the worst rain I have ever driven through. Passenger side the carpet was soaked but thats the first time it's ever leaked. Had a briliant time in France 14 TVR's, 1 Impreza and Benno's Ferrari. Caused a storm when we went to Le Mont St Michel and were surrounded by Japanese and American tourists!!

not the best quality but these were taken with my cheap little webcam thing...

Interesting ......

Sounds like a software bug to me. Have you got any of your contrast/brightness settings at 100% ? I did have but have adjusted to 99% in case they have some kind of glitch at maximum values. Will have to wait and see what happens. My dealer is also going to speak to the TVR development guys to see if they have any ideas.

I’m running V 5.8 and have had no problems at all with the display. I did notice that it used to take about 5 – 10 minutes for the display to warm up before you could read it. Since the car has come back from the first service the display now comes on straight away and does not need to warm up at all. I’m not sure what they did with it. I have all my contrast and brightness setting at about 100% and 65% but I can’t remember what way round. The only problem I have found with the dash is that if you switch on the ignition then off again very quickly the needles can get stuck half way around their initial sweep of the dials, just switching the ignition and off again slowly sorts this out. I must agree, you can’t see a bloody thing with the sun behind you !!!

This is quite worrying - (as Ive just ordered one)
Ive had a chimaera for 5yrs and only once did it leak -quite majorly and it drove me mad.... I suppose I could put up with the dodgy display, but soggy carpets and boot would really pee me off.

I thought most of you guys had the leaking problem sorted with new/repositioned seals etc?

I have sorted the boot leak.
Water was comming in round the reversing light, and running down behind the carpet. They hadn't quite put enough sealer around the light unit, and so leaving a tiny hole for the water to find its way in. A bit of sealer applied tomorrow should fix it, and so a dry boot!
Just the footwell to sort now.
No more problems with the LCD readout, hopefully it was a one off.
