Try to resist, its a very very very sensitive engine phase during running in, problems caused now will be with the car for the rest of its life if you are unlucky.

I know its hugely difficult, but it will save you headaches when the car gets a little older.

Matt, the handbook says to keep below 3500rpm for the first 250 miles only. After that it says to slowly increase the revs until full power is achieved.
So after 750 miles touching 5000rpm should be no problem.
Cheers...... Andrew

the dealer did tell me not to "over-protect". I've only gone over 4 in short bursts, no more than 2/3 throttle with oil fully warm. I hope (!) this is the right thing to do...?

That is interesting as the Tuscan handbook states something different. The Rover V8 is no more than 2500 for the first 250 and then no more than 4000 for the remaining 750 and as the Rover lump is (arguably) more stable it would suggest that the AJP6 should be even more molly coddled. I appreciate that the AJP6 is higher revving but still...

Although I have only run in 1 TVR I have run in over 200 Audi's and VW's and the one thing thats always said is that running in period is the most critcal of any period in the vehicles life.

Just dont want to hear of Tamora's dieing more than anything really.

If it is only short bursts then that should be fine and from Andys comments is probably a good thing. The two main things to avoid, and this goes for any engine, is to not let it labour and to not stay at a constant RPM for any length of time.

Usually the oil for the first 1000 is a mineral oil, for the next 5000 its a semi synthetic and from then on its a fully synthetic.

I'm about to start running in a Ford x-flow in a Caterham. I have spoken to Burtons, who seem to be the Ford engine experts, and they have been emphatic that the first 250 should be on the cheapest, crapest, least viscous oil that I can find. They even poo pooed running-in oil as "too good". The next (say) 500 on slightly better "Tescos cheapest". Then the next 500 on a good mineral.....reverting to Valvoline 20W50 thereafter (i.e. the equivalent of Mobil 1, but Fords "seem to run better on Valvoline").

I'm told the penalty for not doing this is glazing. Has any running-in at all been done by the factory on the new Tamoras?

Surprise, the handbook is wrong.

It's mobil devlac, which is some special running in oil, for the first 1000. After that it's mobil 1 15/50 ( or 15/40 - the motorsport one). They don't bother with mineral/semi-synthetic stage now.

Cheers.
