I'll be emigrating to the US (Austin, Texas) on 1st Sept. I've looked into taking the Tiv, but unfortunately it's impossible.

Thought seriously about keeping her at my Mum's to drive when I visit the UK, but it's a bit too much of an extravagance, especially if I want to buy a decent car in the US.

So, alas, she will be for sale shortly.

Yes, I know I only just had her resprayed! Unfortunately, timing wasn't on my side and she was already in having the work done by the time we started making our plans (in May). Things all happened much faster than we expected. We thought we were making plans for next year, but everything came together much earlier (found a great house, etc.), and now we're all set to go in 7 weeks.

Still, at least I got to own such a beautiful machine for a few months.

As for what I'll get over there, right now I can't see a better option then the newly-launched Lotus Elise. Apart from being mistaken for a speedbump by all those SUV's...

You can take it for 12 months. Would that work, or is this permanent?

Thanks Tony and Lynn.

You're right, I really don't like to hang around when it comes to the big life-changing decisions! Since my husband is American though, and we lived there 6 years ago, it's not quite the big deal it would be for most people. We've got no kids to uproot, just animals.

We're both (me in particular) sick of the hostility, aggression and expense of London, and we both really like Austin. You get all the city stuff we like (24 hour restaurants, good record shops) but it's a really laid back environment too. We'll both miss a lot of things about England (TVR's mainly!!), but right now it's going to be easier for us to both do what we want to do if we're based there.

It's mainly band related for me - 50% of the last album's sales were to the US without it even being released there. They just seem to like their old-fashioned English pop, so if I'm based there I can give it a proper shot, tour properly, etc.. Husband can do his job anywhere (co-owns a US company), and the rest of the decision is really just based on money (it's cheaper), Mexican food (we love it), friends (we've got some there) and the awful state of the UK music biz. Oh and 300 days of sunshine per year.

Cos of my immigration situation (married to a US citizen) I have to go in as a permanent resident. I could only import it as a 12-month car if I had some other way of getting a temporary visa, which I don't. And I'd have to ship it back to sell in a year anyway... not to mention the distinct lack of any TVR mechanics in Texas!

Thanks TC - no buyer yet since I haven't put it up for sale yet! Want to take some proper photos this week and make a little web site for her before I put her in the classifieds.

Good luck girlracer, hope you enjoyed the T350, like we do ours!!! It will be sad to leave such a smashing car behind. But i'm sure it will go to a good home, so enjoy it while you can!!!
By the way, whats the name of the band? are they famous?
Come back and see us sometime, as they say in the States "Missing you already" xxxxxx

Good luck from Diane & Dave....Mid Essex Region

Are the whole band moving out there with you Sally? or are you going to be rock n' roll and fly in to do a recording session

Have fun with the yanks, don't forget not to eat too many donuts otherwise you'll never fit into a TVR ever again.

I actually spoke to Faisal when the idea of emigrating first came up (shows where my mind's at - my first reaction was "what about the car??!!") He gets around the rules by basically re-importing the car every year. He's not a permanent resident, whereas I will be, so I won't get the temporary vehicle option.
