Hi guys - currently have a Honda S2000, but think it's time for a change to something altogether faster.

Test drove a VX220 Turbo and Tamora at the weekend, both are seriously fast, really liked both, but want to use the car for my fairly short daily commute to work as well, and don't think I could live with clambering in and out of the VX, and the complete lack of space inside. Also love the sound of the Tamora.

Have seen a nice car for £30k at dealership fairly near me, 8000 miles, single slot CD player, no air con. Another car a bit further away, at TVR Centre in Barnet, has CD stacker, no a/c, same price, 6000 miles.

A few q's I'd appreciate your help with please:

Is it worther getting the CD stacker? Can you hear the stereo in these cars anwyay??

Should I try find a car with a/c?

Both have the 18" wheels, but just read the Evo group test, and they're saying handling much better on the 16's - what do you guys think? There is a cheaper dealer car on 16's with lower mileage, but I prefer the look of the 18s!

Anything else I should particularly look for, or ask about?

cheers

Alex

Can't comment on the difference in handling, but you only have to look at the 18in wheels. They are a must have option and totally transform the car. Still find it hard to believe that these are an option.

And every Tamora that I have seen leave the factory in the last couple of years has the 18in wheels, so they can't be bad. And the T350 runs on an almost identical chassis and they come with the 18in wheels as standard.

Also in the considerations for buying one of these cars, the cd player is probably quite low down on the list. But sure there are loads of Tamora owners out there who could give you a better hint on the things to look out for.

Hi - I test drove that tamora at the TVR Centre. Made abeautiful sound - watch out for a clanking sound in the lower rev's. The chap whom I was driving it with, said that would be fixed for the purchaser.

I didn't like the interior much, but that's a personal preference. It's all blue.

(In the same boat. Want to buy one too -watch this space!)

Just got mine from the TVR centre last friday. The clanking sound at low speed may well be the timing belt (I am quoting someone else here). Having spent a lot of money on my Radio and speaker upgrade and cd stacker, I say spend the money wisely. Dont bother with a cd stacker just use the one in the front and for future proofing put a connection in for an aux source e.g ipod.

I recently bought a new Tamora, I use the car on a daily basis to drive to work, a short drive, but I like to take it on the open road at the weekend. Still running her in but must say that, so far, Tammy has been a fantastic every day car.

I would say that Air-con is important because the cockpit gets quite hot on longer drives.

Regarding the wheels, I can't understand why 16" should give better handling than 18" alloys. I would have though that the lower profile tyres would be far better for grip and cornering. Anyway, the 18" look so much better!

Best of luck.

Forgot to mention that the standard factory fitted speakers are really not that good. I'm about to upgrade mine.

I think the issue is that these cars have very direct steering, and with 18s and lower profile tyres you get more kickback and sharper responses than some journos like response from the helm. 16 inchers with slightly higher profile tyres take this edgyness away (allegedly - I've not driven one on 16s).

At risk of pi55ing off everyone with a non-aircon car which is for sale I suggest you should get aircon if possible. OK, it won't help with the hood down, but when it's up it is very handy in wet weather or for those long motorway journeys/traffic jams. It works quite well too (With the hood up).

I agree. A/C is a must.

I went from a S2000 to a Tamora and I'm really happy with the car, the steering, acceleration, handling, and brakes are a totally different world, but err' in doors isn't, so happy with the car so it's got to go.
The Tamoras a raw car, all straight 6 noise and serious grunt. When I tell her the Tamora goes "from 0-100 in 9.3 seconds and is quicker than a 911 turbo to 100 mph it doesn't seem to impress her one bit, women?

I didn’t think A/C was that important when I had the S2000, I never used it in the Honda. It's must though in the Tamora if you ask me. The engine generates a lot of heat and it's nice to cool the cabin down quickly.

Does the A/C affect the 'grunt' factor or add to the fuel bill much?

Well, there is only one thing for it then, sell the missus...

Use the old barter system, two camels and a bale of hay seems a fair price...

no offence intended Im sure she's a great gal

in my t350, the air con on seams to have very little affect on fuel consumption and grunt, but this is on motorway drives, dont know about slow/traffic.

It won't make much difference to the grunt factor or the fuel economy. On our 2 Audis aircon makes no difference whatsoever to the trip computer's readings. On smaller, lower powered cars it probably does though.

who cares about the CD when you have the music of that power unit. Turned it on once spoilt the whole thing.
