T350 rear screen questions

OK, I've stuck the silly piece of plastic along the top of the rear screen twice now. I've taken it off. Is there a good reason for this being there?

I can see what appear to be 4 tiny welds in the glass underneath this plastic. It doesn't look like having the plastic missing will cause any problems though. So why did TVR put it there? (I mean it's not as if they overdesigned a part on the car is it?!?)

If I need to put it back on, what glue is recommended? Superglue obviously isn't good enough.

When I took mine off I got water leaking through the seal at the top of the boot apperture. Made the interior trim wet around the interior light and made my rear windows steam up....
