I thought I could get away without A/C on a Tamora seeing as it's a convertable and rely on the vents but with the temperature light on blue and the fan on it just blows hot air !!

Have to close all the vents to stop getting roasted - just another "characteristic" and TADTS or is something wrong?

close the vents that point at the windows and the legs, as these only give heat, but if the car is hot, traffic jam, it will end up heating the car!

Thanks - but hot air comes through the dash vents as well

I would never buy another car without aircon.....including convertibles. Aircon in a convertible is not needed as long as you can keep the car moving and rely on the breeze created..........but..........when was the last time you ever went out without getting stuck in traffic somewhere!!!

if its any consolation, I do have air-con and while its better than nothing, in heat like we've had over the last couple of days, and sitting in traffic, it hasn't been blowing brilliantly cold! It just about does the job.

more "con" than "air" I once heard it referred to.

The aircon in my Tuscan at best pushed mildly cool air and when the summer really heated up it didn't really work. At the 1000 miles service it was investigated and no problems found. Guess TVR's are just too hot!

Juat an off-the-cuff thought but....

..does anyone know where the air intakes for the air-con are...? (I dont get mine until next week, so I can't nip out and check..!) The reason I ask is that if they are deep within the engine compartment then the air-con is obviously working overtime in having to cool the heated air from the engine first... if the inlet ducting was extended to the fore of the engine for example then air of a more ambient temperature would be sucked in which may assist in the unit doing its job..?!

(waiting to be shot down in flames for not knowing the full picture...)

The heat exchanger for the air con is the big black box in front of the radiator as far as I know.

ok, but where is the actual air intake - is that local to the exchanger..?

Not wanting to Hi-Jack a thread, but in the coming months my good lady will be specing up her Tuscan Cab.

Knowing that air con needs a well sealed cabin to function efficiently, is it a good idea in a Soft Top TVR?

I didn't bother with my T350, and don't regret it, but the T350 hasn't got a Black Roof!!

Air con works really well in my T350 with the roof in place. When I take the panels out it only really keeps your hands cool due to all the heat coming into the car from the engine vents, up and over the windscreen. I'd still spec it on a convertible - should work fine with the roof up. Ideal for demisting and those long cross Europe blats with the roof up in hot weather.

It relies on the air coming in from the two large nose vents either side of the number plate. I think the air passes through the heat exchanger then through the rad. Could be wrong though.

I think you may be getting confused between the air cooling the exchanger and the inlet ducts to the cabin where the air gets cooled by the exchanger...
