I will (hopefully) be picking up my new Tamora this week (dealer's photo on my profile). It will be my first ever TVR (after a narrow escape from nearly buying a Beemer Z4). Anyway, I need advice aboout running her in. I will be mostly driving in central London (baaaad!) but also hope to give her longer runs on the weekend. what sort of speed/revs should I be doing for the first 1,000 miles? is it true that I shouldn't go above 2,000 revs until the oil warms up to 50c. Any other advice you can give to a TVR neophyte will be most appreciated!!!

Hi KK,

Where in London are you? I'm in W3. Let me know if you want to go for a mini convoy!

Sorry don't know the details about running in, cos I got my T350 used. Much less frustrating that way! I always let her oil warm up to 60+ before driving like I stole it.

btw: what dealer are you getting your Tamora from?

Thanks! I'm in Bankside SE1. Dealer is Henley Heritage, so far they've been very helpful - will post more details when I get my Tamora (quite excited about it!!). Hope she doesn't let me down, although from looking at other messages I expect a few problems. Big hassle is that there are no TVR dealers/garages in central London so it means a treck to Henley or Barnet if anything goes wrong.

Still open 4 advice about running her in, if anyone wants to reply!

cheers

Oh, we're at opposite ends of London. Still, nice to see another city car.

If you're ever less than thrilled with Henley, I highly recommend Racing Green. They are a total pleasure to deal with. The TVR Centre, on the other hand, are mannerless baboons! One of them (Giles) was very rude to my husband at the Motorshow yesterday. We were at a table in the VIP area at the TVR stand, having a drink. Giles just barged over, plonked some folders down and said "We need this table, you're going to have to move!" Giles, if you're reading, you need to learn some manners. I'm VERY pleased I never bought that Tamora from you. Plus John at Racing Green looks much better in a suit!

When I was hunting for a Tamora, I too spoke to that Giles, the upshot was that I didn't buy my Tamora from the TVR Centre! Nuff said! lol

lol,, Nope,, not just you,,, I had cash too!!! and no part ex!, they lost a deal.
Thanks for nice comments ,, the colour is Grigio Titanio metallic (!!),, seems to be very photogenic!

Regarding running a new car in, you must not go above 3K revs for the first few hundred miles, and then gradually bring up the revs as you pile the miles on, (this will be explained in your new user manual in greater detail)
I have never 'thraped' my Tam when starting from cold, alway keep it below 3K revs until the oil is at least 40 degrees, then it can be opened up a little more,, although mine (I think) misfired twice today!, put the foot down, and a very slight judder, then a pop from the exhaust! odd! will get it diagnosed the next time it's at the dealers!

Yeah, just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Personally, I keep it under 3k revs until oil at 40 deg c, dont actually take it much above that until 60 deg c...then....wahaaaaaaaaayyy!
