Speakers for a Tamora?
Discussion
Does anyone know if I can easily upgrade the speakers only,, (there seems to be only 2 located on the rear bulkhead)?
The sound is very tinny, to say the least, compared to the Chims sound from the speakers,, but the Chim had speakers in the doors also,, the Tam hasn't!
If anyone could point me in the right direation for speaker upgrades that I can just take the useless ones out, and put better ones in,, that would be much appreciated
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris - easiest by far is to simply upgrade the alreay fitted ones, but the holes are WAY too small.
I fitted a set of 3 way 6x9s and the difference is astounding. I simply pulled away the carept (it's foam backed) from the bulkhead and used a dremel and side cutter to make the holes after drawing them with a template.
There's bass (the enclosure achieved is actually very good) and the speakers do encroach a little in the boot but I just stuck the original carpet back in.
cheers

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys ,, (Maddog,, it must be torture having to wait so long for your gorgeous yellow Tam (colour was my first choice also).
I have just bought some Pioneer TS-A131C 13 cm speakers and tweeters ,, but,, with no apparent instructions, not quite sure what goes where.,,, well,, it seems pretty straight forward, apart from the wire and connectors from the tweeters to the speakers doesn't seem to be quite long enough to fit in the dash, (have about 1.5 metres).
I shall have a go later, when I'm brave enough!! speakers in a 5K Clio are better than the TVR standards!!!
Chris
PS,,, whats the best SatNav you can have for the TVRs? (I am the exact opposite of a homing pidgeon!!!!)

OK,, have now put in the (much) larger 13cm speakers in, didnt even have to make the hole already there any larger! I have left out the tweeters for now, as I haven't a clue as to the best way to run the wireing, plus the fact that the walls inside the bulkhead is very sticky! Sounds a lot better now though!
well done Chris - just be brave and go for it is the name of the game!
It's amazing what an upgrade does.
Sorry if my post was confusing, I don't have a sub, just the speakers - I'll take some photos for you.

Hi Chris, good to see the rea speakers in. Recommend you get some insulation foam (Halfords) and put in btw the speakers and the carpet, helps the bass !
Tweeters are very easy. The wire needs to go in the back of the radio connector. It has an easy route behind the glove box on one side, and around the steering column on the other. You then need to get some special connectors (not sure what are called) to fit them into the radio connector.
Have a search under ICE/Speakers etc in the Tamora section and I'm sure you will pick the other threads, incl when I did it.
regards
Steven

Just make sure you install the crossovers for the tweeters, otherwise you'll blow them when you crank up the volume - the difference in sound stage with just tweeters is tremendous.
It is possible to have speakers retro-fitted on the door cards - check out a few interior shots of some T350's, and get your local installer to do it for you.

Thanks very much for the great replies, and very helpful, as usual
I didnt realise you could take off the rear bulkhead carpet to reveal the internal wall!
The tweeters are, according to the drawings, to be connected to the connecting rods on the main speakers!, if I do that,,, the wire would need to run from the back of the car to the front! I may get them put in professionally, as I seem to have a negative Midas touch when it comes to stuff like that! lol
I keep meaning to take a decent pic of my Tam for my profile,, but the weather has been against me since buying the thing!!! lol
