My exhaust is sagging and the pipes are now practically resting on the rear diffuser - it knocks against it if I drive over a really rough surface - like a blade of grass or an ant

Looking at the rubber hangers they seem a bit perished. Are these standard kind of thing you can pick up from Halfords or the like? Was thinking of having a go at replacing them myself.

Apart from that I can't see any reasons for the sagging - had the car up on stands last night and there's no bolts or fastening to tighten up that I can see....

take the rear splitter off and you will see that the rubber hangers are fixed to the box via a pin and split pin on the top its fixed to the body by a plate and two bolts. There is hardly any vertical or horizontal adjustment, go back were the dif is and you will see a thread in the vertical position attached to the pipes this will give you some vertical adjustment at the tail but again not alot but if its come loose it may be enough to drop it onto the body or close enough to vibrate. If you take one of the rubbers off you may get help at a quick fit or exhaust place as they are all quite standard.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Mark.

The thread behind the diff - is that behind it (i.e. towards the back of the car) or in front? I spotted a vertical bolt through the bracket that holds the pipes together before the back box but there didn't seem any point in adjusting this as it wasn't connected to anything else - unless a bit has fell off?

the vertical thread behind the box by the dif screws up and down locking off with nuts above and below if you loosen off the bottom nut and bring the pipies down you will be bringing the tail up becuse it will hinge on the rubber mountings.

Hope this explains more.

The tails are very rarely centre in the first place yours maybe could have been low and the rubbers have streched slightly.

Mark.

Turns out that the fixing had sheared off so I was just left with a screw thread holding the two pipes together - the whole weight of the exhaust was on the two rubber hangers. No wonder they'd sagged a bit.

All fixed now.
