OK, I admit it, I checked the oil last night after leaving the Tamora standing for a few hours, and the dipstick was completely dry, not a drop of oil. So,,, rather than taking it for a little drive and then checking the oil,, I filled the sump up with oil, checked the dipstick and it was then fine,,, however,,,,, having just driven it for the past 4 hours, and then checking the oil again, to my horror,, the oil level is now halfway up the dipstick!!!,, I have way overfilled it!!!
My question is, because the S6 is a dry sump lump, does it matter that the sump's overfilled?, if so how can I drain some out?
I am a fool!

PS, I also bought some underseal from Halfords, as the paint on my wheel arches is peeling off!!!!

When it's hot, get one of those funky basting tube things out of the kitchen (you know, tube with rubber ball on one and that you squeeze to baste your sunday roast)... having a suitable container ready before you start!

Hi Chris, nice to see your keeping active on ph!Just thought id add my two penneth.Go very carefull running the engine with too much oil.If theres way too much you could start blowing gaskets, seals etc and other nasty things associated with the increase in pressure. If its only just overfull, then it wouldnt be too much of a problem, but by what youre saying,i think id remove the excess before running the engine any more to be on the safe side.Hope all's well otherwise,cheers-mike .PS.-did you get the battery problem sorted after?

Battery has been fine ty,,, but have lost your number,, could you email me
County TVR are going to fix the battery connectors to my car, so thats it's easier to charge, ie- without having to take off the darm wheel arch thingie!!)

Cheers

Chris

PS, have already driven over 150 miles today with the 'excess' oil

As far as I know, overfilling a dry sump engine isn't a problem as the oil is in the oil reservoir and you can overfill the reservoir only, not the engine.

As long as the oil you've put in the system doesn't completely fill the reservoir you should be fine.

Whenever you check the oil on a dry-sump set-up you should start and run it for a few seconds first to get the whole lubrication system working.

I did this on my Chimaera (much modified) and I had a drainage tap on the bottom of the reservoir - does yours have such a fitting? I assume so as it's usually how you change the oil on a dry-sumped engine.

Thanks Christof and jamie ,, the sump is just about reachable to fill to top it up with oil, let alone trying to find a drainage plug! lol, it's my fault, should have known better, I guess I've only wasted the oil I've put in,, the oil level in the sump when checked after a long drive yesterday was/is about 2 inches above the max level! When I checked it earlier (not used the car today due to finding a suitible syringe thingie, plus brushing on underseal to the flakey paint wheel arches yesterday), its just above the mave level on the dipstick, I feel like one!!! lol
