Is there a fix for a fuel filler cap that will not lock when you twist it on? I have to leave it loose which is not ideal. The car is an 05 Monaro. I imagine they are all the same!!!
The outside flap on the rear wing is OK and works fine.

Regards John.....

John save money and prevent the filler cap from causing problems by gluing it.

Yes thats right, just put some super glue between the moving parts of the cap and use it just like a twist on and off type. I did it and no problems with mine in use.

Hope this helps.

I'm glad i read this, mine has never locked i assumed the seal was formed when the flap was closed on top of the cap. I think i'll get it fixed before i lose vapours.

OK probably a silly question but where exactly do you put the glue, on mine the white section is spinning in the black cap part, do you just pour a load of glue down there? any pics pls

What is the point in the moving parts anyway? All it seems to do is make it unnecessarily complicated putting the cap back on...

First time I filled up it must've taken about 5 attempts at least...

If its the same as the VXR8, from memory remove the white part and glue that to the back of the black cap you hold - its spinning around that prevents it from locking.

I was lazy when I did mine, didn't take it apart at all, just poured plenty of super glue down the side, moved the cap around a bit to spread the glue and then left it to cure. It turned the black part of it a tad white but it worked. Will probably get a new one some day.

Anyone know the part number ??

Dont know the part number, but it's been mentioned on here before - the price was daft I think - something like £45?? Invest in poundland super glue hehe

eta - seen £35 above rotate I can confirm a Vectra C Diesel cap will fit (~ £5 on ebay) however this isn't a vented cap.

Dont bother buying a new one, once it is glued it will last the car out and not leave you looking a wker when it wont come off at the petrol station and you have no petrolyikes

I had a new one under warranty. It lasted about 6 months. It was made in Belgium. Super glue is your friend.

Are our caps vented? if so, would assume putting a non vented cap on would be a bad idea unless the tank is vented itself?

On the VXR8, when I took it apart to glue, it appeared to be a bit more than a standard cap, hence why I didnt leave the Vectra one on. I couldnt find the reason, but I suspect its there for a expansion/air locks - someone hopefully will know the real reason...

Reviving an old thread. biggrin

Went and misplaced my fuel cap on my '04 monaro day before MOT, and didn't realise until it was pointed out by the mot garage today. Must have left it at the petrol station yesterday. Unfortunately not my local one...

It was a replacement I bought from halfords a few years ago after the original stopped sealing properly. Just been out to buy the same generic locking cap from halfords ("sakura" branded I think?) and seems to fit fine.

Can't say I noticed any issues using the previous one for years. Is there actually anything special about the original caps, other than being vented? The replacement seems to have a vent hole in center on the inside, and I don't get any hissing or problems taking it off to indicate any pressure issues?
