Hello All, and Hi Paul,
I am not sure if you got my reply to your reply email about meeting up at the AACI Summer Nationals at Billing Aquadrome on the 20th of June ? So I thought I would join up and post here.
I see from another thread that some of you are going to this weekend's Spring Nats. I hope that you have a great time, and also see what the event and the 'arena' looks like.
I also hope that some of you from the HSV club can come and join us other Australian car owners at the Summer Nationals. We had about 15 cars there last year, Holdens, Fords and Aus Chryslers.
This year, with your help, we are hoping for a lot more. Some more Fords have come out of the woodwork, and the Mopar Muscle Association seems to have had a lot of sudden interest in the old Chryslers, mostly the Chargers which (along with Falcons) were exported here new back in the early seventies.
I have already spoken to Harry Tune about the Summer Nats and he was very supportive (as were many posters on the AACI forum) about having the Australian cars there again. He also offered us the chance of having our own, dedicated (in other words, laid out and roped off) area off the main show field for the event. Last year we were in the main arena which is great for visibility and impact of the Aus cars, but less good as a means of gathering them together as the main show field is a first come, first served basis. As yet, we have not taken him up on this as we wanted to gather opinions 'pro' and 'con', but it was a generous offer.
As it appears you (and several others) are going this weekend, we (Matt(MMA), Rob (HUKR) and me (AFRUK)) would greatly appreciate any thoughts or views you may have about showing your cars, having seen the place firsthand. It is worth noting that the Summer Nats will be be busier.
Here are some photos from last year;

I hope that you have a great weekend.
All the best
Sandy
P.S. You also hinted that some of your racers may want to attend the Mopar Nats at Santa Pod the last weekend in July. Here is the site;

Hi Sandy
Welcome to the forum
I hope this weekend is just as good as the summer nats. Didn't make it last year as I totalled my Z28 the weekend before and I was still recovering from shock....
As for a joint stand, then I can't see why not, I'm sure Paul will join in with agreement. I think just off the main field is a bit better thanbeing in the middle??!?!???
So lets go for it, I'd love to see some of the Fords and lets see if we can set up some rivalry he he

G'Day Sandy,
It's Rob from Holden UK Reg,
Yes I will be very interested in going again this year as last year was very good.
It would be great to have a few of the HSV guys there as well.
I think we should go for the dedicated area that has been offered to us as. I have a few Ideas to dress the display up a bit.
I will call you to talk some more about it all,
Catch ya L8R,
Rob.

Hi Sandy,
Myself, Jagsy and a few others have just returned from a wet but enjoyable time at Billing.
We have cased the joint and found it to be a good venue with lots for the whole family to do.
The area just off the main field sounds good and with a little creativity we will be able
to put on a good show.
So please anyone who wants to come along (Sunday looks like the best day to meet) post here and lets
see if we can make it the best turnout of HSV's so far!!!
PS. dates on the events page.
Regards

Hi Rob, Paul, Jagsy,
Glad it all went well (apart from the broken arms, of course).
Did you get my email, Rob ? I haven't had a reply from you or Matt, so I was beginning to doubt it got sent.
If you try and phone me and it is engaged, I am on the computer. Email me and I will drop off. Keen to hear your ideas.
The format last year was that we had some Aus cars meet outside at the petrol station and convoy in together so that we could get a good spot on the main field. If we are going to be in our own area then there is less need to do this, or to do this as early as we did. Still, it would be nice to have some cars, and (what ever ideas Rob has) in place by at latest 1000. Big old Australian flags should show everyone else where they should be heading for.
I intend to be there the whole weekend but, as yet, I am still Falcon-less although we will be there with something American. I will very soon contact Harry and say that we would like a 'club' area (for the Australian Car Clubs Association). We may need to give him an approximate number so that he can think about what size of space we need.
Sunday is definitely the 'main' day, and it gets very busy so getting there as early as possible is best.
It would be good if we could get some interest from the Holden UK Register, and maybe Matt can get the guy with the Can-Am to bring it along too. Nice to have a South African car in there as well.
Anyway, any ideas, or comments from anyone, please post here or email me (the address is on the website front page at the site link posted above).
All the best

G'Day Guy's,
Yes got the e-mail Sandy,
I was thinking of going up on the Saturday, can you camp on the stand area ?
I would like to set up a few Australian things at the AusCCA stand, I have the Aussie & Holden flags and was going to take a 3m x 3m gazebo. I was also wanting to set up a BBQ and take some Australian music (No not Ralf Harris) is that aloud on the site.
Any other other idea's from anyone?
Rob.

Hi Paul, Rob,
Nice to talk to you again, Rob. I hope I answered your questions to the best of my ability.
But, to recap.
You can camp pretty close to the show area, but not actually where the cars will be. But the next field/area over from where we will be is a camping area. 200 feet away, perhaps.
Music would be fine. BBQs ? Not sure. I have seen folk do throwaway BBQs on the main show filed, but folk get sniffy about the smoke. If we get an area in the side show field near the trees, I see no problem in having a BBQ in there. I am sure I have seen other clubs do that.
As far as I know, the Interceptor will be there again. Mine won't hahahahaha
Paul, I emailed Harry again and asked for a biggish well located area, hoping, by getting in early, we could get a good spot. He quite reasonably replied saying it would be better to sort that out at the weekend. (I can see he does not want to allocate space in case the club cancels or numbers drop.) I did hint that (and we are relying upon the HSV guys now) that we would like space for 25 vehicles, plus or minus 5. I will now be trying to gee up the Ford guys, and I have spoken to Matt in the MMA about the Chryslers.
My aim is to be there on the Friday when I will contact Harry and work out how he wants it to work. It may be that he says, go there, and we get to peg out an area for ourselves and stick some sort of tag or label on it. We will see.
I am not too bothered. Harry is a great guy, and is pretty good at organising and running the whole show.
What will be necessary is to make sure that Harry lets the Marshall's know there will be some 'funny' rhd cars appearing that should be allowed into the showground. This may be a case for having the daytrippers (Sunday only attenders) meeting up early outside and convoying it together. If the weather is good, you want to be there by 0900, and on site no later than 1000. It fills up fast, and there is a lot to see.
Banners and poles are good. A Monaro would be even better, even if you stick a Holden sticker over the Vauxhall badge. Or, would Vauxhall themselves lend us a demonstrator for the day. I will be Aus-car-less :-)
Hope that helps.
