Well all work has stopped today!

The postman has just delivered the Monaro book
"Rebirth of a Legend"

207 pages of gloss pictures and text charting the New Monaro from Design to production inc. the history of the previous Monaro cars, HSV, GTO and other concepts.

But I am still waiting for the history of HSV book to arrive!

Regards

Hey, stop pillaging our good bookstores!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only kidding!!! That is a top bookstore in Perth, I would go there a lot when I lived in Perth, pick up all my pommy magazines!! Top Gear, Pratical classics and Evo (well Performance Car magazine I think it was called back then) Also all the Clarkson videos and British Rally championship too.
The Monaro book has been sent to new Monaro owners over here after their purchases.

The name Monaro comes from a place in Australia in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains in NSW.Route 23 called Monaro Highway, runs from down near Canberra right up to the border of NSW.At a place called Bombala there is a cafe called Monaro Cafe, and the Monaro County Council offices of 'Cooma-Monaroshire' are at Cooma.Calling the car Monaro, was the idea of former Holden designer Noel Bedford.Back in '68,he was touring in the region, and was on Princes Highway between Melbourne and NSW.He turned on to #23 at Cann River and headed for Cooma where he came across...Monaro.The name 'just flowed'.The rest is...

HAY QLD MICK you forgot to mention that the name "MONARO" means "high place" it is Aboriginal, Australias indigenous people for all you other guys and for a bit more, the name TORANA another great Holden and Peter Brocks Chariot when he was a youg lad ,means "to fly". Peter Brock what a legend!

G'day HRTHSVUK'sorry about omitting the meaning of Monaro, didn't want to appear to know all.
Toranas? now that's another matter.Would be great to see some of them here. The SLR 5000 and A9X for instance.
A '74 Vauxhall VX body with a 5ltr lump! Amazing.
Although prices can be a bit high for a thirty year old motor, what a motor. While they usually sell for between $5K to $12K AUD,there was an A9X in Unique Cars a year or two ago for $80,000AUD !! and no that isn't a misprint. It was a very low mileage showroom example, and not gold plated. It was like new however. It was only in one issue so presumably it was sold.
Now where's that lottery ticket?

Another PS on the price of Toranas. The 80k one was the only one i've seen that high, and it was a display car. Since sending that i've looked again in Unique Cars and a good one fetches as much as $35kAUD.There are some nice ones around the $12-15k AUD mark.I can't find the $80k one damn it.Looked thru two years of U/Cs to no avail. It'll turn up one day when I'm not looking for it.There are one or two decent ones on carpoint.com.au.,some a bit ordinary too.

Just got my book today, had a quick flick through it. It certainly looks comprehensive enough. Will start crunching through it tonight
