For an HSV GTS the pt no is 6PK1995 which indicates 6 grooves and 1995 mm length, been advised that 5-15mm difference is acceptable so I have fitted a Gates 6PK2000 which is fine a readily available via facors as I could not trace the original size apart from Linden supply, needed it now as opposed to the next day.

Looking at the torn & shredded belt it would be down to 4yrs, 48,000 miles and heat, hope this is of interest.

looks like I might need a new belt. I've got 44.5k miles on.

On trip to NEC I have developed a load wining noise from what I believe is the power stearing pump on the GTS. It get louder as you turn the steering. Has anyone had similar. Is it likely to be a belt or a bearing. Any comments appreciated.
Cheers

Do you have a oil cooler fitted on the power steering?

The GTS tends to overheat the oil and it will turn black when this happens and the pump starts to whine!

Sometimes the fluid becomes air-rated (bubles in the cap)which makes a whine too.

They also leak fluid from arond the rubber pipes as they join the long cooling pipe which runs behind the fron bumper. When the fluid is low the pump whines.

Another problem shown in the manual is on the rack where the pump is rubbing on the rack this also makes a whine but only when the wheel is not at the center position.

If you change fluid you will need to let it stand for a long time to let the fluid get around the system (I started mine once a day then stopped and topped it up for three days before the whine stopped).

Lots of possible ideas, I will send you the reports in the manual!

Thanks Guys. Just come back from my car repairer and looks as if the problem was a small leak on steering fluid a top-up has resolved the problem for now. If problems not too great a full investigation on leaks will be done in a couple of weeks time.

I will keep you posted
