I think the 98 model will be a VT1 and will have the Holden cast iron block. It may have the 340HP but it may be the 99 that had that HP.

Try www.hsv.com.au/cars/classics/classics.html and click on the VT1 series info. If it is a UK GTS it will be either the Clubsport or the GTS.

Otherwise give Mark at Lindenspecialvehicles.com a ring, I'm sure he'll help.

Not sure how it will compare to a Griff 500 - remember the HSV weighs 1700kg so can you really compare it???

They are 2 very different cars with different markets.

Hope that is of use - if I find more info I'll get in touch.

ROR350,having owned a Griff500 without doubt it is a much quicker car off the line than my HSV even if it is giving away lots of BHP purely because of how light a TVR is.However see my previous thread ("if we don't start"). Also within my limitations as a driver the HSV gives me so much confidence in its handling balance, poise and grip that on many roads I probably get A to B as quick. But the HSV isn't just about it's performance (which is still bloody good for a 4 door saloon) it's the driver involvement( a la TVR) the noise, the goodish build quality, the comfort, the fact that I can go for a hoof on my own or take the wife 2 kids and all their kitchen sinks and get out 200 miles later with a grin on my face plus of course the many pleasant comments about the car that are made (a la TVR).

ROR350, in fairness to my 4 previous TVRs it was only the Tuscan that was a total shed, the others didn't give me heaps of trouble just the usual niggles, however the HSVs are leagues above in build quality and running costs. In theory you can get them serviced anywhere although I tend to use LSV because Mark knows the cars inside out. As for things like parts supply the car has been so reliable (15000miles in 2 years the only problem of note being the speedo needed resetting)that it hasn't been an issue. What really gave me the confidence to buy one was driving the very car that Autocar had on long term test for a year (and loved)probably been thrashed to within an inch of it's life by Sutcliffe and co and still felt fine. For an unbiased opinion look up "porkgirl" an ex owner who only changed because she wanted Boxster.
Cheers, Andy

Hi. Also an owner of a GTS for 4 years in fact its GTS003. Fantastic car. Much loved much used 33,000 miles road and track. Similar problem with speedo, no great problem to solve. New set disc and pads (self abuse) and a prop shaft coupling and probably a result of that huge amount of torque. Otherwise regular servicing. I am seriously considering replacing with another.
I was very worried about availability of parts but has never really been an issue.

Crazy, how about you coming on here a bit more often as Ted threatened to close the HSV page again if we don't use it more! See "website feedback" "HSV gone missing again" forum for all the pleading I've had to do with PetrolTed to get it back!

Sorry for my absence. I have spent the last year building an ultima so have been lurking in those pages. Now I have come out as an HSV owner as well happy to answer any questions on the car.Just how many HSV owners are there out there.

Hi Richard. Yep On the hill in the Dean. Have been frighning the locals with the HSV for years thought they were getting complacent so now use the Ultima. There are the occasional PH meets in the area.
Intersting when people ask what makes an HSV. To me its when you can make a trip to Le Mans car full people and kit and cruise for miles at 130mph. It is typically Aus crude as a Badgers A*** especially the aircon but very effective.
Where are most of the HSVs in UK are they mainly around Northampton.

Next time I'm down your way we must meet up - would also like to see that Ultima. Which chevy engine did you put in, I note it has >500HP????

I'm not sure where all the HSV's live, I know there are some around the London way and I have been told there are a couple in Scotland.

As for North of England, I am the only one in the North East, there maybe one in the Lakes and I've heard of one been spotted in Harrogate.

As there are only approx. 170 GTS's (not sure if that inlcudes the R)they are rare to find!!!!

Jagsy Anytime you are down. The Ult is 535bhp (US dyno) so in true life bit shy of that. However S*** of a shovel. It helps preventing me from unbolting seats from the HSV and unbolting all the heavy bits. Its too good for long jouneys for this.

Cheers
