What Octane Rating should I use?
In standard from (unmodified), the Monaro (CV8 & VXR) will run quite happily on standard 95 RON fuel. 97 RON will provide only minimal improvements on a standard car.
However, engine re-tunes may require you to step up to 97 RON - This will be advised by your modifier.
Where's the cheapest?
www.petrolprices.com is a good web site to find the cheapest petrol in your area. There is even an option to send you emails to keep you updated.

Monaro Variants
Basically, over the past 2/3 years, there are 4 variants of the Monaro.
04 CV8 - Standard Holden Monaro with Gen III LS1 5.7 V8
04 VXR - HSV take the above and tweek the brakes, power, suspension plus sportier looking
05 CV8 - As 04 but the boot space has been drastically reduced as the petrol tank was relocated to behind the rear seats to meet US safety regulations
05 VXR - Again, small boot, but now has the Chevvy Gen IV LS2 6.0 V8
One notable point is that it is well documented that the CV8 brakes (both 04 and 05) hare shockingly poor for the power of the car. The VXR has much better brakes but both versions can be further upgraded to High Performance Racing Brakes.
Oh, and finally, there's the VXR 500 - This is a special & limited edition of the 05 VXR with a Harrop Supercharger strapped to it... Very nice indeed

Replacement Stereo Info
The stereo in the Monaro isn't exactly state of the art, not that you need it if you've upgraded your exhaust system.
So, here's some threads to help on your way to replacing the stock unit

Monaro Wide Angle Driver's Mirror
If you haven't already noticed by now, the Monaro has a large blind spot due to the driver's mirror being flat.
To resolve the problem of the Monaro's blind spot (due to flat mirrir), without using one of those stick-on halfords things, you can replace the glass with the glass from a Pontiac GTO
The part is #92147343 Pontiac GTO Passenger Mirror Glass and will fit all 04/05 CV8 & VXR models.
This item is not available on the Vauxhall parts network and will have to be sourced either from a Pontiac dealer in the US or from a Holder/HSV dealer in Australia.
For further info regarding the mirrors, contact me (I've done 50+)

Servicing can be done by non-franchised dealers without invalidating the warranty under EU Block Excemption Regulation 1400/2002.
BER 1400/2002
=============
In October 2003 European Union legislation, ‘Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002’ (BER) came into force
This gave motorists more freedom in their decision as to who should repair and service their vehicles – now any garage can be used without invalidating the manufacturer’s warranty (subject to certain conditions)
This was as a result of four specific ‘freedoms’ that were introduced, aimed at safeguarding free competition in the entire market for vehicle spare parts, service and repair. These meant:
· parts distributors can supply parts of the appropriate quality to dealers and authorised repairers without the vehicle manufacturer / assembler using ‘dealer / repairer contracts’ or other means to prevent them
· parts manufacturers can no longer be forced by their original equipment (OE) contract to limit supply of parts to the vehicle manufacturer / assembler
· parts manufacturers can supply OE products under their own brand so motorists and repairers will not feel they have to go to a main dealer for a certain part
· anyone with a legitimate need for technical information has a right of access to it in a usable form and at a reasonable cost
The BER covers service and maintenance during the warranty period and prohibits vehicle manufacturers’ warranties from including conditions requiring that:
· all normal maintenance be provided within the vehicle manufacturer’s network
· all parts used must be the manufacturer’s original spare parts
Independent repairers CAN carry out normal maintenance and repair services during a vehicle’s warranty period without invalidating the warranty conditions provided that:
· the service is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s servicing schedules and is recorded as such
· any parts used are of ‘appropriate quality’ and are recorded as such

Monaro Stereo Upgrade FAQ
Standard System Settings Tweak!
You can adjust the settings of the standard stereo to make it sound better (not fantastic, but better!).
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=69&t=366682
Double DIN or Single DIN adaptors
Our cars do not have a standard size hole in the dash, so if you intend to install an aftermarket stereo you will need either a Double DIN, or a Single DIN adaptor.
The Double DIN adaptor of choice is made in the US by a guy called ChimChim. Expensive (in the order of £90 shipped) but a perfect match for our cars. He can also make a Single DIN adaptor if you ask him nicely! You can find him here:
www.ls2gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49324
A company called Metra has started making Double and Single DIN adaptors (for the Pontiac GTO – the same as the Monaro). The Metra adaptors are much cheaper (around £20 shipped – perhaps less) but are not an exact match. Close, but not exact.
Metra Double DIN – 95-3528 - www.installer-data.com/item/display_item.php?it=95-3528
Single DIN - 99-3528 - www.installer-data.com/item/display_item.php?it=99-3528
Steering Wheel Controls
Depending on your replacement head unit, you can use an adaptor by PAC-Audio to allow you to continue to use your steering wheel controls with your new stereo.
Have a look here for details on the product (PAC-Jack) and what head units it works with. (Most Alpine, Kenwood, etc).

You may need to get this from the US (eBay is good for that)

Other adaptors:
- Aerial adaptor
- ISO Wiring adaptor
Whether you need these depends on the head unit you use. Our car has a standard ISO wiring connector for the stereo with the exception of the permanent and switched live pins being swapped around (!?). You can normally easily change these as they are bullet connectors.
