Hi all. I’m looking at doing a deep clean on the engine bay tomorrow, for some autoglym cleaner and some brush sets. Problem is never done an engine bay before and concerned about getting water in places it don’t belong. Anyone done it before and can recommend the bits I need to cover to stop the water getting to it. Obviously battery will come out.
Thanks

It sounds like you’ve got some good quality cleaning gear which is half the battle.
As far as I’m aware there are no areas on a Monaro or VXR8 that are too sensitive to getting wet.
I think a cool ( not cold or hot ) engine helps the cleaner to dissolve dirt which obviously makes the job a bit easier, just take your time around any electrical connections.
The only golden rule I would abide by is do not use a pressure washer on an engine, any water that gets forced into electronics isn’t going to end well.
Once you’re happy with the results run the engine to dry everything out, and if you’re really keen finish off with a good detailing.
One thing I should mention is the two chassis rails that run either side of the engine bay will fill up with water, make sure the drain holes underneath the bulkhead/ firewall are clear for everything to drain out.

Hi, I would also wrap a plastic bag round the alternator as not a good idea to get water in there.
