Apparently the Monaro is on show at the NEC to test reaction to it and see if they want to bring it to the UK. Well they must have tucked the flaming thing away at the back of the stand because I didn't see it

Ted, it was tucked at the end of the stand in a seperate roped area, horrible bright orange bog standard Holden coupe not a HSV.The salesman? didn't know the engine size (5.7) the output, the price or what day it was.....and they had it there to gauge customer reaction!

A larger displacement version of a small block Chevy is still a small block Chevy, not a big block. A big block Chevy is a different engine. Here in the States as well as in Canada, Lingenfelter, Agostino, and other tuners have recently been making 7 liter LS1 engines for Corvettes, Camaros, etc. Putting that engine in a Holden is certainly a good idea, especially since they're finally going to start selling the Holden Monaro in the US as the Pontiac GTO.

Ever since Chevrolet started selling the big bore racing block to the public, tuners started making 7 liter engines with that block and a stroker crank. Still, even a huge small block Chevy is still a small block. It's not a big block (like the article says), as that's an altogether different engine.

Mickj, you've got that backwards. One AUD is about 0.36 GBP. One GBP is about 2.8 AUD.

Sorry to correct you, but petrol there is around $0.90 AUD per litre (I am an aussie from Melbourne orignally) which is about £0.30 GBP. Only about 1.5 times CHEAPER than here!!!! Then again, so is everything else... (not moaning, honest ). Also, they have now taken 25 firm orders for the new car from the Sydney motor show, so it will happen!!!

Linden Special Vehicles in Northampton already have some on a boat heading our way. These Monaro's (coupes) have been built to their specifications and are not HSVs. The Australian tuning company CAPA has done the work: airflow, suspension, body kit, interior, blah, blah...Bottom line is the standard model kicks out 435bhp (that's more than the GTS-R) and the boat will arrive in December. No doubt I'll see a few of you up there! Some looney has also ordered the 7litre 700bhp version from them too. We must find this man, I believe he lives in the South West.

Vauxhall may well import this car – in 400bhp form or the weedy one – and badge it with a griffin. It would cost £26-28K. You just have to ask...

Apollo,Mark showed me the spec. of the first confirmed sale and the bloke has gone crazy.550bhp all singing all dancing £63k's worth. Can't wait to have a look/see. Apparently he is an existing HSV owner and the car will be ready Febuary.

There is alot of conflicting info about Vauxhall's interst in bringing in Holdens. I have it on good authority that they will definately not. Mainly because of the loss of face that they can't produce a decent car themselves, but apparently HSV want nothing to do with them and who can blame them. The brand would instantly drop in status. I don't want to sound too snobby, but would you buy a Vauxhall? Honestly?

I was told at the Motorshow that there will be a customer pre-launch in November in London and no I wouldn't buy a Vauxhall!
