Looking for abit of advise because my head is about to explode.

So last year, the knackered centre bearing came up on my mot so I took the Driveshaft off to have a new one put on. I also bought new rubber donuts while I was under there. Everything went back on fine but ever since I've had a vibration all through the car from around 45-70 mph, after that it smooths out. This includes the steering wheel shaking and what sounds like cabin boom.

I going back under it this weekend as im fed up with it, but just wondering what I can do to diagnose/fix. I've heard that abit of trial and error in rotating the shaft 180 degrees at the diff end could help?

Other than that, if the shaft has been damaged having the bearing replaced, I wouldn't want to get another 2 piece to have the same problem again. Does anyone have any experience with a 1 piece?

Thanks

always mark a shaft before taking anything apart.

You may have just re-fitted the two pieces 180 out. So try that first

1 piece are st, largely only viable for low speeds as they have limitations due to length

Failing that, a propshaft specialist should be able to resolve the problems for you and re-balance if necessary.

When I took it to have the bearing replaced, he did Mark the two halves to realign again. He also said it was a bd to get off so I'm hoping he hasn't been too forceful to cause it to go out of balance.

I'll see what I can do I'm hoping it is something simple. I'm reluctant to go with a 1 piece, especially considering the price and it could potentially make things worse, I've heard lots of mixed reviews

Take it off, send it to the likes of Dave Mac, Hardy Spicer etc etc and they can make it good again.

The only downside of that, is it will likely take a few weeks as they'll probably be busy.

It's unlikely they've damaged the shaft itself.

But the split at the centre bearing would also be a spline so I guess there is potential for them to mess up too. It should not happen of course, it's all easily avoidable....but you are where you are now.

Update. I rotated the Driveshaft 180 degrees at the diff, took it for a drive and the vibrations have gone, no more steering wheel shake. Acceleration feels smoother too. There is still some cabin boom but I can live with that driving

unusual, normally you'd need to rotate one section of the shaft relative to the other.

Simply rotating at the diff flange isn't likely to change much at all.
