Well, after 18 and a half years of Monaro ownership, the inevitable has happened and something new has come along. It probably would have been Australian if they were still making them, but they are not, so the Monaro has been joined by a slightly more muscular American cousin;
A 2023 plate Challenger Jailbreak Widebody.
The jury is still out as to whether the Jailbreak and the Monaro get to remain as bedfellows. Plan A was to sell the Monaro, but on giving it a wash, putting new brakes on it, getting it through an MOT and taxing it, guilt pangs struck.....
So the 2 of them are sitting side by side here at the moment, and seem to be getting on well with each other. There's no getting away from it, the Jailbreak is a completely savage beast that makes the Monaro now look quite docile. But it had a good run tonight, and showed it can still do the business, in its own slightly more subdued way.
I would say that the head should rule the heart, and the Monaro should go. But with a Jailbreak sitting outside the window here, I am not sure the head is in any way qualified to be giving any advice!
No doubt those on here will be able to dispense sage advice on what best to do.....

Manual or auto ?
8 speed Torqueflite auto. There was word that some of the Last Call editions would have the Tremec manual box, but not seen any as yet. I hear that's the TR6060 which is an evolution of the T56 as used in the Monaro. I always found the T56 a pretty heavy going box, and always a bit of an impediment to rapid progression - Unless you are in 4th and can go and go without needing to change gear! The Torquflite is a lot snappier, and in auto mode, is very "change down happy" - The slightest bit of extra throttle, and its down at least 1 gear - Give it a load of extra throttle and before you know it, its dropped 4 gears!Edited by Windy Miller on Tuesday 11th July 10:58

that is lovely - hellraisin?
Octane Red.Monaro is Quicksilver and looks quite understated by comparison! Its a 2004 CV8 I got new in 2005, without the bonnet nostrils, so was always quite tame looking - The sort of car you could take your elderly mum shopping in (low passenger seat excepted....) without it looking out of place. The Challenger meanwhile just looks a bit of a hooligan.
Yeah, a bit challenging indeed - The car is well named.... Though oddly, a lot of fun can be had with it in valet mode. I tried it in that once, just to see what its like, and its a surprisingly good caper. Limited to 175 hp, but a lot of fun seeing what you can do with "just" 175 hp!
Somewhere, there is a BMW that lost out on the North Coast 500 to a Challenger in Valet mode!
Still not sure I would entrust it in valet mode, as it will still exceed the UK motorway speed limit....
