Hi,

I’ve just purchased a 2004 Monaro CV8 and I have uneven brake pad wear (eg. no pad left on one side of the passenger side pads). It has the twin piston PBR calipers on the front (not sure if this is standard or not, as I have very little knowledge on these motors as yet!).

I’m just wondering other than pedders or Walkinshaw performance, are there any other places that you guys have managed to source a brake caliper rebuild kit from?

Cheers

Is it worth putting a photo up of what you have fitted , I have a spare set of standard cv8 callipers , and many others sell them , there is Rockauto who sell a lot of new stuff and may do a rebuild kit , use the fed ex route so cost quoted is fully paid landed cost , uk wise aas in newcastle or walkinshaw , or any decent brake calliper builder

Rock auto have them at 50£ each , plus tax shipping and import cost about 30 per cent on top , worth an upgrade to brakes that work ?

Online search for company “red” who specialise in rebuilding callipers. They spray them any colour as well as red.

I've still not got around to confirming it yet but I'd have a look at c5 corvette pbr caliper repair kit .

The standard caliper for the 296?mm disc was fitted on certain 1997 VT to 2005 VZ cars so there are plenty around just maybe not in the UK. If you are buying some from Rockauto, I helped a friend of mine fit some remanufactured calipers to the back of his C4 Corvette. Also a PBR caliper I believe, not the same size obviously. They were the Nugeon brand they sell on there and they appeared to be fine, quality wise. Another recommendation I would do, that we did on his Corvette when we fitted the "new" calipers was also buy different bleed screws (highly recommend the acdelco brand here) We removed the ones the Nugeon calipers came with, the acdelco ones were more metric than the Nugeon bleed screws!! Looks like they come in packets of 10.
Pick-up some c5 brake pads to, as they have a bigger surface area. In Oz, they were called Police pads as they were fitted to Police cars.
Pretty sure the actual caliper part is the same as the 330mm HSV Clubsport/GTO of that era but with a different mounting bracket to fit the bigger 330mm disc. Certain Ford Falcons and "Terror-Tories" had the same caliper but also a different bracket. 7599 is one of the pad numbers although it looks like it is discontinued. But cross referencing over to a Ford, 1868 is another number. However why bother when the C5 pads are £25. You should be able to see the difference when you bring a picture of the different pads up on Rockauto. eg Bendix CFM731 has the larger surface area over the AcDelco 17D731MHF1 for example.

Hi all,
I'm interested to follow this as I have a set of calipers from an 04 CV8 that I want to get rebuilt to use on a track car. The rebuilder I tried says they cannot obtain seals and pistons any more but if I can find some, they will do the work for me.
I know I can get a complete ReMan set from RockAuto, but the uk rebuilder I have will properly paint them and will lifetime warranty them all for £145 so I'd rather choose that route if I can.
I've looked on RockAuto for the parts I need but there seems to be a few different options of nominally the same part, so I need to find the actual part numbers on my calipers and go from there.
I believe the calipers are the same part as the C5 and C6 (non Z06) Vette ones except for not having "Corvette" cast into the front face, so it makes sense that C5 pads fit.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your responses.

I ended up using a guy called SSLautoparts on eBay. They totally overhauled the calipers for £250 inc shipping both ways. They’ve done a great job and it only took a couple of days.

I’m back up and running again now as I got disks and pads from pedders but it’s interesting to hear about the corvette pads. I’ll probably opt for those once these wear down.

Thanks again

How can they lifetime warranty something they cannot even get parts for now ?

Cheers for that, I'll have to give them a try!

They warranty their mechanical work and paint finish as long as the supplied parts are clearly not junk. A friend who used them before me had the same thing, they rebuilt the calipers on his Turbo Starlet which has long since been unobtainable, using parts he found specially from Japan.
