I am pretty sure my diff is very noisy, not a clunk but wiring. a drive noise
Had to explain, its not a bad noise but its pretty loud, so guessing i will need it rebuilt at some point
i was looking at changing the oil
I have seen castrol Syntax bounced
So i have found some and ordered

Also what sort of cost am i looking at for a diff rebuild? any recommended places in kent?
I am gonna take it to NWJ for a check over and ill get him to have a listen
Easy enough to get the diff out when i come to do it?
He also suggested maybe i can get a new ? any suggestions

thanks

You may well find that the syntrax gets rid of the whine. If it does change it again in 5 thousand miles.

an oil change is always worth a punt. i swapped my diff out for a lower ratio on a mates ramp in 3 hours.
hardest bit was lowering subframe down to get to front bolts. mark it up before doing so .
youll need thread lock for driveshafts bolts too

Its actually fairly easy to drop the diff. you can get to the top bolts without dropping the subframe, it just needs tipping down buy undoing the shock bolts.

Rear diff mounting bolts.

Undoing the shock bolts will have precisely zero effect.

I did an oil change Friday.
But i found all the bushes on the car have been changed to poly bushes inc the diff bushes. Meaning I am probably experiencing the noise vibrating up through the car

Yes, that could very well be the cause.

Well yes. Kind of obvious.

Well after going out with Neil at NWJ, it seems it is a wheel bearing, so will get the sorted
although its not bad enough to say which side yet when up on the ramp

if memory service me right the rear wheel bearing are also the same as a BMW 525 1988-1995 i believe. Taking the AC Delco number from Rock Auto (511035) and x-ref it gives me an Optimal number 202168 and x-ref that number gives me an FAG number of 713044650. I would check specs and size before ordering but easy to get a hold of in the UK.

Should that be 713644650 . That's what I fitted after having the subframe powder coated
