Hi all was checking the[ presumably] aftermarket cap on my monaro and found it vents if you sook it[stopping tank vacuum] but wont let any pressure out if u blow

Is this correct or should it vent both ways-anybody?

only noticed it wasnt original cap as had smaller key attached to the big one and read previous thread about cap locks failing-present cap has no lock

Generally fuel vapours are dealt with via a charcoal canister and admitted to the intake system under certain conditions when driving.

There is usually a purge valve on the intake manifold routed to the top of the tank to achieve removal of vapours within the tank. As the hippies do not like these getting vented to amos.

No lock on a monaro filler cap . The part on the cap that fails is the ratchet mechanism that clicks when you tighten it up ie: it clicks but fails to tighten up

Smaller key possibly the valet key for the glovebox ?

yes,car being charged i have re-routed that purge valve to vent to atmos under car as any intervention into the inlet i view as a bad idea,so yes the car should indeed vent that way-i dont trust the basic one way valve with the pressure from the charger-was just wondering if the cap was supposed to be vented both ways too

It's not a bad idea...it's how all cars do it these days.

If you route the vent to an air filter area, there will neither be pressure nor vac to deal with but it can still vent as intended

Or just ditch the purge valve altogether and leave that vented to atmos, but again pointing somewhere sensible baring in mind fuel vapours may be present. Although with no valve whether electronic or mechanical, if the vehicle ever ended up in a mess it is a potential route for fuel to escape.
In reality a minor worry, but worth mentioning
