A bit of strange one I suppose scratchchin
I haven’t changed the engine oil in two years for various reasons, mainly lack of use and the fact I can’t physically drive or work on a car at the moment.
So how long will oil last in the sump before it degrades.
The oil is Royal Purple ( and filter) and has less than 4000 miles of actual use.

it’s worth starting the car every month or so if it’s running , the oil will degrade over time but not much , first time it’s properly used , warm it up , do an oil change then drive it , i had a scooby forged engine sitting in my garage for a few years , it’s now going into a car so just getting the oil changed , plugs done and cambelt , on a slightly separate note , my r8 and monaro do around 4 k miles each year , i used to extend oil changes but don’t any more , i now do yearly changes as it’s surprising how dirty the oil does get , as i do my own oil changes or use a cheap local garage , it does not cost much to change any way , plus keeps service book up to date

I'd be more worried about the fuel going stale than the oil. Oil wont really degrade , but the modern fuels have a very short shelf life, the ethanol attracts moisture very fast and separates to the bottom of the tank.

Seriously mate, there will be nowt wrong with the oil after that mileage. If the car is garaged its even less of a concern.
My oil was changed last April 2020, just 1500 miles ago, there's nowt wrong with mine either. I'm not pouring perfectly good ~ £70 oil away.
And lets face it, the LS isn't a race spec engine!
When you're in a position of using it again in your normal way, maybe get it changed then.
I'll be getting mine done next year.

Should be much less of an issue if he has 'premium' fuel in the tank, like no issue.

I must admit mine does less than a thousand miles per year so I replace the oil every other year. I don’t see the point of throwing perfectly good Royal Purple down the drain.

In truth you probably still are. hehe
But I understand your engine isn't a run of the mill LS!

Thanks guys, I might just leave it for now as the car is garaged and I have a dehumidifier for the winter if needed, so dampness should be kept to a minimum.
I only use high octane fuel since E10 came out, so it’s still got a gallon or two of Tesco’s finest and I used a can of fuel stabiliser for good measure.
Mind you I think I’ll burn that old fuel off and get my brother to fill up a couple of petrol cans with some fresh fuel for the winter.
Job done biggrin

Exactly. I really wouldn't worry too much.

Same here, had same oil in now going on 16 month, had MOT done today only done 357 mile since the last one, seems silly to drop the oil.

Maybe we should start a thread on who does the lowest mileage between MOTs lol.

Alright, I'll start here...

Just 209 miles! I didn't realise it was that bad! Must try harder to use it less hehe

Mine passed its MOT today and had covered 337 miles since the last one almost 18 months ago (MOT appointments are backed up here in NI).

Looking through the service book, it’s had 5 oil changes over the last 5 years/1500 miles laugh

That’s a point, thinking about it my car has had 17 oil changes in 70000 miles! that’s just ridiculous, that engine must be like new inside?
Talking about lack of use, I’ve covered just under 700 miles in a year. In reality it will be next spring before I’m back on the road damn it….
The thing is when I first bought my car I was determined to put 200k on the clock.
I think I’d better get my skates on next year!

I don't get the point of having a car that does so little mileage. Its like having a telly you never turn on, in case the fuse blows, or a wine glass you never put wine in, in case it stains. Its a car, drive it.
You want to be buried in it ??

I totally get why you think like that.
But I guess we are all different and also have very different lives which can effect the usage of these cars.
I enjoy using mine as an occasion, I've also taken great pleasure in returning mine to an excellent standard. Part of the enjoyment for me. It is also SORN throughout the winter months which obviously heavily limits annual mileage.
For me personally having a very large dog I ferry about a lot means the estate gets most of the use, I can live with that.
When I do use the Monaro, I always grin and laugh out loud, its just so very different in nature to regular cars.
I want to be cremated, the car can live on. smile
