We have just come back from a 1200 mile road trip, we left the Isle of Man went to Chester, Cotswolds, Devon, Cornwall, Stratford up to see some friends on the Wirral then back to the island. I got the monaro serviced at MWP first then we headed south the motorways were heavily congested with big tailbacks but that may be normal we are not used to that but the car was absolutely flawless and it probably did it the world of good as it has not had a decent run since monkfish closed. I wish I could say the same for the Range Rover it had totally drained its battery to 0 volts when we got home, I thought the solar charger would have done enough clearly not. We did not see another HSV the whole trip but the car did create a lot of interest when parked up which is always good to talk V8.

Glad you had a good time. Theres nothing like a good old fashioned road trip in a special car that’s for sure. I agree a long hot drive will absolutely do your car the world of good and it will probably drive even better having done that. I bet those combustion chambers are super clean inside after that amount of miles laugh
Unfortunately my car hasn’t moved since last October, I was hoping to drive it in all the glorious hot weather we’ve had this summer, sadly my back injury put a stop to that frown …roll on next year driving

Nice to hear of a good road trip in a Ro.
I get the feeling that a well maintained Monaro is actually a super reliable beasty. They are just simple old school engineering, with little to wrong.

My normal yearly mileage is about 1200 miles so you are right the combustion chambers will wonder what has hit them, I agree a well maintained Ro seems to be very reliable, it may seem totally over the top but I do get mine serviced every year.

My Ro sees less than 500 miles per year but it still gets a service every 12 months.
Not really necessary but I’m a big believer that if you look after your car, it’ll look after you.

Glad you both got back safely Stewart. You’re right that use does these cars the world of good. Just checked the MOT history on mine and I’ve averaged 300 miles per year over the past 5 years which is pretty pathetic.

Thanks Paul, I thought I did the lowest mileage each year it looks like mine is high mileage laugh it is now up at 36k but it looks like this may be an annual trip as Andrea loved it and has fallen in love with Cornwall.

I think I barely do a thousand a year if that, but I like it that way. Keeps its special.

I've done 1,300 miles on my engine already hehe

I used to manage about 6 - 8,000 miles a year (I walked to work, so all fun miles smile), there was a bit of a dip in the middle for a few years and then the last few years there's been a lot of tinkering so it's been very low mileage.

All going well with the engine I'm hopeful to get back to using it more regularly as I have sorely missed having a manual V8, autos just aren't as enjoyable.

It’s a nice place but it’s no IOM! We’re considering moving to Shropshire which has some beautiful countryside. So MWP will be my nearest garage too.

Shropshire is very nice, I have found MWP very honest and have been using them since monkfish ceased trading. You will have to get your Ro trailered from Milton Keynes to Shropshire Paul otherwise you may do more than a hundred miles in a year.laugh

You may laugh but I’ve put it on a trailer before to get it to Top Cats so I know what to do and the Land Rover towed it easily. If things go according to plan, we’ll get somewhere with land and out buildings so I can buy all sorts of unnecessary things. I also want to get a 4 post lift smile

Sounds like a good idea but I have a better one buy a place over here with land and outbuildings as I have just bought another bike and need more storage. I was only joking about the trailer I should have known better. laugh
