Does anybody know a source where I may be able to locate one to replace a damaged one? I've tried the obvious places even Ebay. they seem thin on the ground

Bit of a long way off but you could try I do cars off of you tube. He breaks engines and always looks like he's got LS engines in his workshop.
Only thing is he's in St. Louis U.S.A. and might not want to ship to the U.K.

All the LS cranks are 3.622" stroke (excluding the LS7 and other high displacement ones obviously), I don't think the main bearings are any different?

As such you could include LS1 cranks then feasibly, as they'd also be 24x reluctor wheel?

Craig Taylor at Dyno Torque may know of one, or perhaps of someone going to a stroker who'd have one available etc. I sold mine off a little while ago sadly.

Thanks, the cranks are balanced differently. I have ls1 cranks but by the time they're refurbushed and balanced to suit an ls2 along with a reluctor swop the costs are adding up. I'll check out those options mentioned.

I'm quite surprised that so much Ls stuff seems unobtainable these days or at least hard to track down. Ls3 blocks seem very thin on the ground to.

Ah I didn't know that smile

There seems to be a fair amount of the stuff coming in, but you seem to have to know the right people and then suddenly you find there's loads..!

Billy Gibbons (Billy's Speed Shop) has a lot on the shelf, Straight To The Point Racing (Benito Ciarella) also I think has quite a bit, or certainly does a lot of builds over here.

As with so many things, Facebook seems to be the most active these days with actual availability of stuff.

^ That has a lot to do with it. Just think how ancient a late ls1 is these days.

1998 I think was first general mainstream LS, which is 24 years.

Doing well for what is an old platform, and now the LT potentially taking over.

Hopefully not the end of an era.

I think the direct injection complications and vast LS aftermarket support (and associated lower costs) will feasibly keep the LS platform alive and popular even with the LTs around.

Do the LTs all have VVT and such as well? scratchchin I can well imagine dropping an LT in to something being appreciably more costly than an LS, and with seriously diminishing returns in terms of power potential.

I believe yes you can have the LT with VVT. And yes, in standard form they are proving to be very strong and willing too make power.

it would have been so much nicer if they'd retained the LS exhaust port positions so existing manifolding would fit which would make swaps a lot easier.

And LT's are pretty affordable, again perhaps down to being slightly less popular at the minute. The new 8LT which is around a 6.8L from the factory, iron block will prove popular for boost as they are a very robust short motor.

I believe with some modifications to the bock deck, LS heads can fit too but the LT heads likely flow better.

^ They're such an ugly looking engine though. That's enough to put me off.

I'd have no hesitation using one for a new build.

But it'd be too much hassle to redo what I have to make a swap

Although with the dollar rate going the way it is, anything from the US is getting more and more expensive !
