Hi all. Just bought a monaro and am collecting it later today, so it’s time to call round the insurance companies.

I’ve just tried Greenlight who told me that I needed to be driving a RWD car for the last year in order to get cover with them. Hmmm. Lots of powerful RWD cars but not in the last year I’m afraid.

I’m on hold to A-Plan at the moment, see what they can do.

Any other recommendations?

I’m 49 so shouldn’t be too much of a risk…

A-Plan, Sky, Adrian Flux, Admiral

Admiral were always surprisingly cheap for me, only left because they wouldn't do a multi-car with a Ute, because the Ute was on their system as a commercial van.

Admiral have always been the cheapest for me.
My Monaro has been insured with them for over ten years.

Thanks everyone.

I went with A-Plan Thatcham, they’ve always been good for me and this time very competitive.

REIS are also generally excellent for modified cars, which mine is, but couldn’t get me a quote where I didn’t also need to fit a Cat 7 tracker.

Welcome to the gang. I use Adrian Flux as I have an agreed value policy and to be honest they were the only insurance company who would insure a modified Ro at the time and they are always pretty competitive.

Adrian Flux were 200 quid more than A-Plan and the excess was £350 more, too. Think I did ok with the deal I got.

Pics coming, soon. Sadly w*rk and k*ds get in the way of fun stuff like keeping cars clean and taking pictures!

It’s a red 04 that was on eBay very recently. Lovely car, although the steering wheel wear is at odds with the mileage.

Ah yes, I think I know the one. Very good price?
The interior is from a VXR model including the steering wheel I believe. The original CV8 wheel has silver spokes, VXR all black leather.
That could explain the oddity.
Nice looking car.thumbup

Yes I thought it was a stonking price.

I’d decided that’s what I was after and was determined to look at a few. Then this one came up well in budget and local ish, so I’ve bought the first one I’ve viewed… again!

It needs 600-800 of paint and new underseal, but if that’s all it needs I’m doing well.

Thanks for the explanation about the wheel. Does make sense. Nothing else about the car makes me feel the mileage is out.

A pic

That looks bloody lovely! smile Really sits well on the 04 VXR wheels.
The 04 CV8 has really grown on me, it's a subtly handsome brute.

I am the same-really didnt like the plain bloated calibraesque looks, but over the time i have owned my cv8 the looks have really grown on me,funnily i really liked the calibra/probe/mx6 type styling when it was current too

In some respects I prefer the look over my VXR.

Give me a pair of exhausts not a single exit and I’d be quite happy with the looks. Rear bumper looks a bit bland and understated but the rest I prefer over the later car. Perhaps a slightly lower splitter on the front as well but these seem east to grind out so that’s very much form over function.

It’s nice that it’s a bit understated. Agree with the calibra comparison but that’s not a bad looking motor either if you look with fresh eyes and ignore the griffin badge.

I had been with Admiral but they wanted 40% more for this coming year.
I looked on the Meerkat comparison site and they have come up with the cheapest at around £420 in London for a VXR8. Can't recall the actual insurer though.
AF was around £635
Admiral £525
Othercomparison websites were a waste of time.

Actually Safely Insured (which I think was Sky) were the most sensible, most helpful and came back with £365.
Talked to someone who understood cars and insurance and did everything I could have expected.
From today's experience I would definitely recommend them.

Another Admiral person here. Used them many years ago for my RX8 too.

The only quote I got anywhere near them was Esure and they're utter scum.
