CV8 New gearstick boot
Discussion
So I noticed some while back the the rubber boot that seals the gearstick from the outside was quite badly perished.
One order from Rock auto later and I set to work. Previously I'd not really paid attention to the exact detail of it's fitting, so, expecting this to be a half hour job I removed the centre console trim and the gearstick and immediately knew it wasn't going to be that easy. The plate that holds the boot is bolted from underneath.
Out with the axle stands ( one side only ) and a quick squirt of penetrating oil on the bolts before this photo.
Two of the nuts are ok to access, socket with universal joint and we're good to go. The other two ( you can see one - just - to the right ) were spanner only as they're right above the gearbox and linkage. Fully expecting to be unable to get enough force to undo them I was very glad they actually came undone, albeit 15 degrees at a time with the spanner until they were loose. I backed them off to the end of their bolts as I didn't fancy having to put them back when it's all at just fingertip reach. I removed the two easy ones.
Behold one new boot, with the plate loose, it's only minor faffing to squish it in to the right place.
I took another shot from underneath, for no good reason than to show the blinding light from above..
Then I went and had a nice sit down!
Seems a bit quieter on the cabin now too, which was the whole point of doing it.
