Air Con Gone...YET AGAIN!
Discussion
Guys a bit of advice needed here. I recently had my air con repaired as clearly there was a hole in the lines and the gas had long since escaped. Got it back, all was well and then on Saturday, turned it on and barely even cool. No noises or pump straining. Do you think its likely to have sprung a leak elsewhere and now all the gas has gone yet again? I'm not happy in this weather as you might guess
So you've just written it was barely cool? Can you hear the compressor click in when you switch it on or not?
If you can, but its barely cool then yes the gas level is low and I would expect it to stop working all together soon as the low pressure switch will activate. If you can't hear it click in, then it could be a leak and all the gas has gone or it could be something else, like the clutch on the compressor has burn't out.
Very difficult to diagnose over the internet I'm afraid. Can you check to see if you have 12v to the compressor when activated? Check the air con fuse, if it has blown then the clutch is the likely suspect.

As LincsIs1 said, If the compressor is clicking when you switch the aircon on and off then it’s probably working. On the off chance check to see if the drive belt is tight, mind you it would no doubt squeal if it was slack, but worth a quick look.
After that a trip to an aircon specialist who will pressure test the system and hopefully use a dye to check for leaks.
Don’t forget to add compressor oil when it’s topped up, but a specialist should do that anyway.
One final thing, make sure all the heater and ventilation flaps are working just in case they are stuck closed…unlikely but again worth a check.

Looks like a need a new aircon compressor...damn. No wonder I had no aircon. My question is do i go for a new compressor or check to see if a breaker has one, or is there anyone who sells them on an exchange basis?
Is the car a keeper, if so, go new. This would be me.If you have plans to move it on in the short term, go 2nd hand.
Sorry for butting in here. But I think I might have an air con issue with my VXR8. Press the button there’s no noticeable noise or click while in the car and all the screen display says in AC off.
If nothing happens when I push the right button then it must be prob. Hopefully just needing refilled.

You need to find out why the compressor failed first before making any decisions.By that I mean you need to make sure the failure didn't put metal shavings into the system.

Mine was the same when I bought it, it wouldn't turn on due to low refrigerant pressure. A refill cured it.If nothing happens when I push the right button then it must be prob. Hopefully just needing refilled.

If you want mine for a hundred quid or something I can bring it to the next Gaydon meet
It worked when I took it off, will have done 69,000 miles ish, although tbh I rarely used the AC even when I had it
That sounds like an excellent offer but I’m not going to be down that direction anytime soon. I do like to have a few spare accessories lying around aswell. It worked when I took it off, will have done 69,000 miles ish, although tbh I rarely used the AC even when I had it
Typical I’m driving this beast on the hottest days Scotland’s seen in a while with no AC. 29c when I came home 10 mins ago
Just found a loose belt floating around in my vxr8 engine bay. Air con belt! That will explain why the ac wasn’t working then.
Got a bit of a fright when I seen it while the cars engine was running.
looked like it could’ve got tangled in the serpentine belt if I never found it.
Does anyone know if the pulley upgrade kit is still available? Or is it something that is updated if I buy a new compressor?

If you have had it regassed you should still have pressure in the system when you go to re test it.
If you have a leak the pressure will have dropped or gone completely. And a pro aircon person should be able to tell you have a leak from the vacuum test before refilling as it won't hold vacuum.
Also have you checked the outside air temp sensor reading as the sensor is a common fault and plays havoc with the aircon if it can't get a true reading.
