LCD has stopped working…

Had to change my battery on my Vxr 6.0 as the old one had died and discovered that the LCD incorporating the odometer and mileage range etc has stopped working - everything else in the rest of the dash cluster is working ok just the LCD - Any suggestions?
Also I have seen a second hand cluster for sale which states it would need “coding” - in the event I need to get a new one what does “coding” involve? And where can I get
it done?

I'm pretty sure I've read on this very forum that they can be swapped without any coding etc, but the mileage will be wrong.
There might be a difference between the software of 04 cars vs 05 cars too, but the link I posted should be alright since all 6.0 VXR's are 05 cars.
Get buried in the search function on here, that might reveal a more definite answer, but like I said, I'm sure they are changeable without coding.
They just aren't that modern.

As above you'll likely have a real issue with the mileage, Vauxhall dealers won't have a clue how to help, maybe Walkinshaw could.
Would be worth getting a cluster from a 6.0 if possible I'd expect due to some differences between the two (ECM etc.)
In the mean time, the clusters are very easy to take apart and it might be worth trying to replace the screen or investigate whether it's perhaps just a bad solder join etc.
For reference the car will run fine without the cluster (your mileage won't increase though) and you could use the OBD2 port for speed, revs and fuel level etc if you need to send the cluster off to be fixed.

This happened on mine years ago. The LCD got dimmer and dimmer until it faded away. Green backlight still works, just the black LCD that died out. Years ago, when the car was down at Monkfish, they tried swapping it out with a known good working one off a breaker, but there were so many issues with it, Roger put the original back in and said I was better off with that.
Not had an odometer for years, and it doesn't need it for the MOT so no worries. At the last MOT, I asked the garage owner if he could tray and see if he could find the odometer register somewhere through the OBD port, but no luck. Various modules searched but none revealed any odometer register.

Weird, here you must have a working odometer for MOT. Although they don't really check that it is working as such, just that it has numbers on it.
