AFAIK, it's the engine fitted to the C5 Corvette Z.06 models.

Ls6 is a later version of the ls1 all aluminium gen 3 chevrolet 5.7 litres engine. It's an all new design of the famous small block chevy. Everything's been vastly improved and there are mega tuning options. It's an exciting engine if you are into that kind of stuff.

The one in the Corvette C5 Z06. bigger openings between lower gallaries in the lS6 vs ls1 blocks.

Believe Holdens use a combination of LS1 botton end and LS6 heads and cams with the 75 mm maf but top spec one might have the 85mm one.

Info from Wotec.

For a short answer look here:

For the long answer & a bit of LS6 history:

What would be nice is a table showing the differences between all the LS[1-7] engines. Haven't found one yet.

Holden used the LS6 intake in later year models I think from VX on. It flows better than many aftermarket ones and better than the stock LS1. Im almost certain that the monaro's have the LS6 intake.

Ls1's don't have the windowed blocks at all but this makes them a stronger block, downside may be a few less rpm's due to higher crankcase pressures. Ls6 also had the benifit of tefloned pistons which helped gain a few extra rpm's. Ls6 got a higher rocker arm ratio but stopped at 1.8. Going to 2:1 ratio is a quick route to power but the geometry will be wrong and the guides will wear or get damaged. There are lots of other differences with the ls6 when compared to the ls1 which in combination add up to extra horses but ls1's can be modified easily enough to make ls6 figures.

Holdens have had the ls6 flat floor intake for quite a few years.

Is there an LS2, LS3, LS4 and LS5, or is it just 2 engines (LS1 and LS6)?

Don't forget the LS4.

For a brief rundown see:

So according to the Wikipedia, the LS1 and LS6 are both Generation III engines, the latter being the higher output version. Both are 5.7L

LS2, LS4 and LS6 are generation IV engines.

LS2 is 6L and based on LS1. LS4 is 5.4L and LS7 is the new 7L engine based on LS2.

And there was never an LS3 or LS5.

Well, that's clear as mud then.

LOL, later on they will fill in the gaps with aluminium blocked LQ models, don't forget those

I fibbed earlier, late ls1's did get the sand cast windowed blocks but only some of them. Most blocks went to Oz for the holdens.

Stevie, I shall look for the text I had on the 1.8's. There does apear to be some uncertainty here, it's not at all clear.

Tom got any pics of your cars engine?

Is it a Magnasson (twin helical screw) or Vortec (looks like a turbo) blower?

Hi Jellison, I have the Vortec S/Charger. The only pics. I have are from the various press articles on my car. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a scanner. However, I will one day get it together to take some digital pics.
V8HSV or UKHSV may well have these press articles in digital format, if so perhaps they could post them to you or here on the forum.

Doubt it, least not for a long time. It's the flagship engine for the vette. You could have something better if you really wanted it, ie a Darton 427 or 455 using your engine block as a donar.
