After a fairly spirited drive last night - in the middle of 3 bikers (somewhat supprised bikers), like most people on this forum, have found the brakes to be dire.
Someone started a thread yesterday about a front kit from KAD?
My question -sorry if it's a bit thick- is what percentage of the stopping power of a Monaro goes to the front brakes, and in all likleyhood, what would happen if you only upgraded the fronts and left the backs std?
Regards
Iain

My AP 6 pots wear out 3 sets of front pads top one set of rear pads, hoping there is some logic in this reply.

I agree with "V8HSV"...........If you look at the amount of brake dust on the front wheels compared to the rears, I would say 60-70% front wheel bias

last check, my 6 pot fronts were about 60% worn & the rears were 20%. (these are still my original brakes)

Ultimate stopping power has a greater relationship to adhesion and grip which is a result of friction caused by mass (weight). Aggresive stopping power will rely very heavily on the front brakes as the mass effect transfers to the front tyres. Rear brakes are important in heavy braking so that the car doesn't spin. Call KAD and see if they recommend a front upgrade without doing the backs at the same time.

If it helps, I used to have an Abbott Racing prepared Saab 9000 Aero & had AP brakes on the front. Abbott didn't think that the backs needed changing other than for cosmetics. The set up was brilliant & obviously a fair bit cheaper!
Very different cars I know, but weight wise can't be much in it.

Hi Will, I know the Abbott's well, my wife is a "classic" 900 nut & I've owned several 9000's. All have been modded by Abbott to some degree. My last 9000 Aero, was the most modded & had at least 280bhp, but Abbott virtually eliminated the Torque Steer with 18in mag/alloys & suspension mods. I really loved it & still miss it. Better car than our current 9-5 Aero imo.
Paul, what have you got?
P.S Sorry for changing topic featherfoot.

Thanks Daz, In a real rush this morning but was passing the wash & as the car hadn't been cleaned for over a fortnight, I couldn't resist!
Normally, I would have got out for a chat! Nice colour M5 you have, much prefer it to the blue that seems so popular for local M5's.

Back on topic, featherfoot I can't see why you shouldn't start with the front first & then if you want do the rear later. But I'm no mechanic, someone with more knowledge might know a reason not to!

Very spooky indeed .....

I too have just, April this year, moved from a 280BHP Abbott Saab 9-5 into the Monaro.

Torque steer on mine though was horrendous.

Even spookier still the car has re-appeared in my Home town despite being sold back to Abbott's.

mine is a 900 T16 Convertible, it was the first convertible Abbott made and it is still used on their web site (silver one under body section)

It had all of the Abbott product available at the time fitted and according to "Dan" who mapped the car while he worked for Abbott's it made
280hp (spooky he now works for Abbey Motorsport and has help us HSV boys on the Dyna pak)

Spec inc. body kit, wheels, brakes, adj suspension, exhaust, turbo, head, intercooler, one off black dash etc etc

I have used many cars on track days but the Saab is still one of the best all round packages......................Abbott know their stuff

Great minds..... Abbott Saabs, Smart cars & HSV's!!!
Paul, my wife has a Monte Carlo (limited edition) 900T16s convertible. This rare model has as standard all possible options, A/C, electric leather, walnut dash etc. & has the Carlson ECU. Other than a custom exhaust & de-cat made by Neil at Abbott Racing, it's standard. It's a J plate, low miler in great condition with only 2 previous owners, so we want to keep it fairly original. I have a set of 16in Aero wheels (with moded offsets to stop the rears scaping the arches) which were on previous 900's she has had & I might fit them.
I love your silver car, it must be very quick!
The convertible does scuttle shake like mad, but whenever I drive it always amazes me how great these cars are.
The last coupe we had was well moded by Abbott & was a brilliant drivers car, sadly sold it when we got the 9-5 Aero estate.
Paul, I knew Dan, he was still at Abbott when I visited with my first GTS VT, remember him loving it. He was planning to emigrate to the USA, good to hear he's at Abbey, he's a talented ECU fettler. Say hi to him please if you see him.
