They certainly went a bit wild with the badges over there on these cars.
I am no expert but have owned or own a few VF's if that is the one you are looking at.
I guess the rust stuff over there, check everywhere for that.
It has the optional Rapier wheels on it (optional in Oz anyway).
The dial behind the gear lever will change some of the settings, suspension/exhaust/intake, it will come up on the dash in the top right corner.
It will also show up on the EDI from memory. That is on the stereo display with the SATNAV in it.
I have only owned one that had a quiet diff. The diff can drone sometimes when you back off. It is a big beefy thing that takes up the spare wheel well. ie you won't have a spare wheel unless it sits on the optional mount in the boot. There should be a can of goo and a compressor for those flat moments.
The oil filter can sometimes not be done up enough as they made them smaller a few years ago, so there can be oil residue showing up behind the oil filter, it can look like it is coming from behind the engine and over the gearbox.
Check the brakes pads, the brake parts are not particularly cheap but they are available.
Main things would be the HSV specific stuff like the bumper bars, globes/LEDs in the rear lights. The HSV stuff is not cheap and getting harder to get hold of. The engine and mechanicals are fine, raid the US or Oz for that stuff.
The power on roll on take off is...........fun!! The VF cars handle pretty well but the GTS doesn't really have enough tyre for the maximum power so be careful there! ie I wouldn't be flooring it in the twisties.
