Hi guys, could you help please?
The VXR8 broke down for the first time in 11 years last sunday. When the AA arrived he looked it over and diagnosed the alternator had packed in. We managed to get it home and it's booked in to be looked at by a good, local garage. If however he struggles to get one could anyone give some advice on where to get a replacement, or is a reconditioned alternator any good?
Have any of you had the same problem or does anyone know if there's a VXR8 being sold for parts at present?
Many thanks
Mel

I'd think it should be pretty easy to have it repaired locally.

PWP might stock OEM alternators, but they wouldn't be cheap.

eg, this may or may not fit

Rock auto but use the fed ex route as that is the full cost including taxes ,it takes about a week to arrive , i used unit exchange in borehamwood herts , i think it was about 60£ to get it done one one car and about 100£ on another , if nothing else worth rebuilding your old one as a spare

You wont need to import one. Its a generic GM part, just get the part no off it.

I got a new one for my commodore from a local alternator specialist here in london called Robson and Francis rewinds. £130

Thank you all so much, I appreciate it. I'm going to charge the battery fully and drive it the 1 mile to the garage (a decent one this time)
I'll show them your responses. I think he was looking at a reconditioned one but if I can get a Generic, new one from an alternator specialist I'll go with that.
Thank you again guys, have a great day 😊

generally they would remove yours and have it repaired unless whoever has another in stock ready to go.

Should be an easy process though unless there is major damage

Thank you for your advice, its very much appreciated.
The cars booked in with a good mechanic this time. I'm hoping by charging the battery fully there will be enough battery power to get me the two miles to mechanic.

Thanks again for your advice
