Not really sure I want my VXR8 anymore. It is an amazing car, but with the state of our roads it just brings with it costly repairs, from cracked rims from potholes, to now needing new rear dampers, drop links and bushes. Can't even be bothered to order the parts right now.

Thinking about selling it and just getting a shed instead. Someone help convince me I am being mental.

Buy a ‘shed’ anyway to do the crap roads and day to day running about.

I did this years ago and have kept two cars ever since. It makes driving the Monaro an event and there’s actually not much cost difference, especially if your daily is exceptionally reliable and economical (Suzuki Swift in my case) smile

It's one of those questions that plague enthusiasts, to sell or not!
If you've had enough of the car and fancy a change that's fine, but if there is a nagging doubt I would hang on.
The VXR8 is one of those cars that is in short supply used and there's certainly no chance of a new one...ever!
If you are really keen on V8 powered muscle cars then hang onto it. I think just a few years say 2025 onwards it'll be all over for new V8 cars in any case.
As stated above, just get something hopefully cheap that will do the daily duties and save the VXR8 for the summer weekends, when it's gone....it's gone for good frown

My Monaro lives in the garage and my 2 other cars are in front of it when it comes to going for a drive, and that’s assuming the wife doesn’t want to use hers with me as a passenger. As a result it doesn’t get used much but I’d be really upset if it was no longer there.

Surprised to hear this mate as you've made quite a car for yourself there, would be a shame for it to go.

If you have the space, SORN it for a year and use that £500 to buy a shed. Some old Yaris or Honda that'll give you no hassle sort of thing.

I've had the Monaro 11 years and when I was depressed for a few years at one point it sat on the drive unmoved for 18 months as I'd just lost all interest in anything. The first MOT after that was a real milestone and realistically the car has reflected my general wellbeing its whole life, little does it know.

Hope you're OK anyway, I only bring it up as my loss of 'the love' was indicative of my own health and not a reflection of actually being bored of the car etc. I'm happy to chat / listen about how much depression sucks if you ever need an ear, no "chin up mate" responses, guaranteed thumbup

Hi Barny

Only you can answer those questions and I think you already know where it's going. Sometimes I think that owning certain cars ( I've had a few) are a moment in time and you need to move on and take on something new in your life.

Yours is an amazing car and someone else could be really happy with it but make sure you replace that part of your life with something that gives you as much pleasure if you decide to sell. If you follow Snowey on FB you will see that he has got that bit so right and is living a great life with his dog and camper van

Edited to add that James (above) has some very wise words

Hi pal.

All I can say on this subject is think very long and hard before you sell.
Sold my manual R8 a year ago and tbh as much as I love the replacement, it’s not the same, worlds apart. I’ve found myself looking daily for a good 10 months for another R8.
I deeply regret selling mine. Yes I got very fed up with the constant spends on it, I guess I bought cheap and paid for it? But the amount of attention it got, the smile on my face from the noise it makes is irreplaceable.

Your choice, everyone has their own reasons, but there’s a long time of regret. It will be a long time before I can afford another

i agree as above , sell it you will regret it , and unlikely to find a good replacement , i was thinking of selling my ute on but now looking to keep hold of it now as the chance of finding an equal car for sale is zero

There is a lot to be said for shed motoring. Most fun I ever had in a car was a 200,000 mile e36 bmw 325 with rust and a welded diff. It had the kidney grill missing, and people actively avoided it .

Get a £1000 car for a daily, keep the vxr for weekends ,you'll never look back.
