In my infinite wisdom and never ending enthusiasm I decided to tackle a few jobs on my Monaro, things I've been putting off for a while.
I replaced the bonnet and boot gas struts at long last which was a satisfying result cool
I then attempted to replace the noisy electric clutch on the air con compressor.
The unit works fine and pumps out ice cold air no problem but the damn clutch rattles like crazy.
So not leaving well alone I bought a removal tool and a clutch...what a pain in the rear end a simple job became.
With some effort I managed to pull the clutch disc off the compressor shaft, unfortunately there was a worrying cracking sound yikes then I saw oil pouring out of the bottom of the compressor unit. GAME OVER....it's now well and truly censored
Some times I do ask God himself .....why me...why can't things just go smoothly and not cost the same as the Apollo space program, just for once? cry

That's a bummer pal, but good on you for trying.
What are you going to do now, get a good used compressor or buy new from the states?
For what its worth, crap like this tends to always happen to me as well! frown

I called Stuart at AAS, he thinks he can get a new replacement compressor and fit it for me. He's pretty busy at the moment but I'll find out for sure in a week or two. Other than that the cars running just fine.
I take it you have sorted your car now? not that they are ever really finished of cours laugh hopefully it's running well?

Yes mate, my old girl has been fine for a while now. In fact in the best shape she's been for many years I'd say.
Everything in good working order, freshly painted shell, in fact I'm just in the process of putting the trims back on, new OEM clips, fixings and badges etc..
I can now say shes in very good condition - excellent for her age.
Looks, well - fresh!thumbup

Every now and again I sit down with a pen and paper....and maybe a beer, then plan out some serious engine upgrades. The thought of driving a seven litre car fills me with bounce
However once it's fixed this time!!!!!! I'm going to leave well alone scratchchin

I spent 3 hours on the hottest day of 2018 fitting a compressor I bought from aus , and when that was all done, decided to fit the dryer. At which point the hard line broke off.

I lost my rag and pulled it all out and sold the compressor, and haven't looked back.

I feel your pain, and yes I lost my rag too, Infact it's lucky I didn't have an RPG7 lying around!!!!
I tried to save time and money by doing the job myself. in the end I will have spent a lot more time and quite a bit of money on fixing a simple job that turned into a disaster.
I did think about pulling the whole system out but my Mrs was having none of it...something to do with hot flushes....whatever they are?

the compressor are not too bad to fit , i changed mine on the r8 as that was the apparent fault , then found out it was the pipe work so that got changed too , i rub grease into the clutch on my monaro one and it keeps it fairly quiet , wanted to remove a gear stick today on a scooby , three hours to remove a 1 cm long pin , no reason it would not budge , then again on a scooby wanted to lower the back box so tried bending the metal brackets on the back box , stainless steel box split and blowing slights c..p , monaro needs a rear abs sensor i expect that will turn into a Bu..er to do too

I'm thinking the moral of our collective sorrow and frustration is "never be a car guy"
Well apart from the few occasions when things go right biglaugh

Absolutely bang on John.
Being a 'car guy' is generally very expensive, I do wish I wasn't one, I'd much better off. My daily Astra does everything just fine and costs peanuts by comparison.

vxr2010, please let us know your progress on the Monaro rear ABS sensor.
I couldn't budge mine when looking to shim them for the proper air gap to the reluctor.

AAS said a good penetrating spray so not wd40 , i use sas , soak it over a few days , then it’s a mixture of hammering and drilling , i’ve just cleaned mine with a rag and feeler gauge and took it for a drive and it’s ok, but with my luck i can’t see it lasting lol

Thanks for the updates. If you could let us know where you source a rear ABS sensor.

CV8 '05
I had a thread way back about the sensor to reluctor air gap being too narrow (feeler guage) causing dashboard skid warning when accelerating hard.
The US GTO dealers were given a factory fix to shim the sensors.
A very friendly Pistonheader sent me FOC some bespoke "laser" cut shims but I can't budge the ABS sensors to fit the shims.
I might have some spare shims if you need them with your new sensors.

bigwheel , cheers for the above link , …,a small update , even the little screw holding the sensor in won’t budge , it’s going to get booked in at the local garage to do it , less chance of things going wrong , it needs to be worked on when it’s on a ramp , i don’t have a ramp plus it needs some heat which again i don’t have , the gap from sensor to ring , aas say 1 to 1.25 mm , the link says 1.5 to 2 mm , i think it’s a case of fit sensor measure and see if it works

Ask your garage to hone out the bore a little, where the ABS sensor fits in. So it doesn't seize again.
