So, finally got round to coming up with a solution to my hole in the bonnet scenario.
Wanted air to get in/ out , but not have a problem if I get caught in a rain shower.
The bonnet was like this, carbon wrapped, with a m3 fibreglass bulge, to make space for the trumpets.
It had been wrapped for a few years to cover a previous hideous half bonnet paint job.
It was ok,(and waterproof) but the engine wasn’t happy in traffic sucking in all the bay heat.

I made a 20mm lip around the hole to make any water run around the edge of the hole as below, and got the bonnet and bulge painted.

Then installed the bulge with 20 mm tube nuts so it sits with a nice air gap. Now air can get in , and out, but I’ll be good in a rain shower. I can also remove it easily if desired.

The car is in bits now, had a noisy valve train sound so pulled the heads expecting a lifter , it’s actually a galled pushrod/ rocker dome. Don’t quite know how or why, it scored, but it’s getting new oil pump ,ls2 cam chain, lifters, pushrods 2 new rockers and a 30thou skim. Could be close on piston to valve clearance, but if it measures too close I have a milder cam , not that I want to fit that, but if it’s that or fly cut pistons I’ll go with that

So, I actually ended up going with 16 rockers from melling and pushrods, as well as oil pump and chain, Gm mls gaskets.
Piston to valve clearance was 65 thou , I’m happy with that, even though most say you should have 80 thou + , it’s an aluminium engine and it’s old enough to not care.

Pushrods stayed at 7.4 , for whatever reason, Maybe the new lifters are 25 thou less ?

In the time the cars been in the garage, the pas pump has decided to start leaking for no apparent reason.
Oh well a set of seals is on its way, and a new larger cooler should help.
