Does anyone know if the 2004 Monaro came with electronic stability control?

AFAIK the Monaro just has basic traction control and it is the same on both the early 2004 and later 2005 versions.

Thanks for confirming? Do you know if it came out on the next model the VXR8?

mine comes up with esp on start up but as to how effective and what it actually does i’m not sure , i think it may just be a flash version of a tc system

ESP standing for electronic stability program, differing from TC in the fact it will brake individual wheels front or rear, left or right if the system detects the car getting out of shape to correct it, rather than just reducing throttle (TC) when wheel spin is detected.
If your VXR8 says ESP then that is what it will have. It will probably have yaw sensors and such on board.
Would make perfect sense, many high spec cars of that time were getting ESP.

I have a feeling that the esp on the r8 is as effective as the tc on a monaro as it seems to let a lot happen even with it on , i drive with it on all the time , in the wet it comes on a fair bit , it has three modes mines left in default with it fully on there are two other modes from memory , so if it’s in sort of race mode it’s probably more off than on

Yeah the VE onwards had actual ESP, which is individually applying the brakes to keep the car stable during sketchy situations.

The TC in the Monaro and earlier is very much just a cut of engine power if it senses rear wheels slipping. I've always just turned it off in the Monaro and do the same in the wagon.

I have never bothered to test the ESP on the wagon, I'm sure it's very good but personally I find the cars very predictable to drive, and feel oddly that the ESP would introduce unpredictability and so sort of avoid it. Certainly the few times I forgot to turn off the TC in the Monaro before I mapped it out it caught me by surprise when it suddenly cuts all the power mid turn / slip etc. Silly really but ho' hum, we'll be legislated out of driving manually at some point so might as well enjoy it while I can.

The UK HSV VT & VX cars came with Racelogic traction control which is slip adjustable and really pretty good.
