Nice! I was reading your old thread yesterday about remaps. Glad you've finally bit the bullet
Yes it’s been on the cards for a while but lockdown ruined plans to get it done last year. I’m not expecting a load more power to be unleashed but given the rave reviews they get, I couldn’t resist it.Global-i said:
Interested in the results, Considering having mine done, but holding off at the moment, as I may make some other changes first.
Also need to understand how I go from HP custom OS to EFI Live custom OS.
I would imagine just flash the EFI Live map on, job done. Neither will be fundamentally changing the way the ECM functions in terms of operating system, imagine it more as updating a lot of lookup tables. Also need to understand how I go from HP custom OS to EFI Live custom OS.
Or I'm totally wrong, in which case ask Luis, he is happy using HP or EFI, prefers the interface of EFI Live, but I'm sure he'll be able (and happy) to explain.
Well, the car’s been given a health check and whilst the current map worked, it’s safe to say it’s not great. Main issue being the high and low octane maps are the same so if the car decides the fuel is not good enough, it’ll use the same ignition timing as if it were. Lots of other odd things which I won’t elaborate on here. Draw your own conclusions from these plugs!
The most worrying thing was a very recent misfire which I put down to the cold start or maybe a plug lead or coil. Carl looked into it and found this:
A broken valve spring which if it weren’t using double springs would have killed yet another engine! To say I’m relieved is an understatement. Leak down test and compression test show she’s otherwise in good health!
Just waiting for parts then mapping can begin!

Bloody Hell Wormus talk about saving your engine just in the nick of time. Im fact I'm feeling a bit stressed out just thinking about it.
Anyway I'm glad to hear you're getting it sorted. Keep us updated with the repair and how she runs after the remap.

What valve springs were they Paul?
Ligenfelter as far as I know: https://www.lingenfelter.com/product/L230075897.ht...You can derive very little from plugs with hundreds or thousands of miles on them.
But sure as hell, catching the valve spring was a very lucky shout, as that would have lead to very nasty things !
If nothing else comes from it, it has been worth it for that alone.
Also odd that one broke in the first place. Although some yanks do claim they are more or less a consumable, but I find that hard to believe.

Good catch on the valve spring, I had both inner and outer go, I believe the inner snapped and the loose piece or just the remains of it got between the coils on the outer spring and snap that one also. The talk of broken valve springs seems to be quite a common one in the LS cam modifying world, but have to say I've can't recall reading of a valve spring failure in a stock engine.
What seems to be the issue here?
I'd like to do cam/heads/intake work myself someday but it seems quite risky.
