Woke my 05 VXR out of hibernation today and about 5 miles later the traction control turned itself off and wouldn’t turn back on again.

It’s booked in for a service at the start of May anyway but just wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be?

Faulty ABS sensor?

If your car was OK when you put it away for winter and assuming the switch is working I would guess a low battery is a possibility.
You could also try disconnecting the battery leave it for 20 mins to power everything down then connect it back up and see if that sorts it.
Failing that like you have suggested check the abs sensor for corrosion and the correct air gap ( rust/ dirt )

It’s been on a CTEK charger all winter, so the battery should be ok.
The sensors seem to be positioned ok too, but I’m not an expert.

First time its happened in 10 years of ownership. Strange.

Took it for another run after lunch and all was fine. TC was toggling on and off as it should be via the button.

I read through a few old posts and some folk mention they’ve had a similar problem sporadically for years.

Maybe it’s just character..... biggrin

The TC uses the ABS sensors, however I would have thought if an ABS sensor was faulty, you would have an ABS error on display.
I would put it down to a one off glitch, a random result of being stood over the winter. And I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a recurring issue. smile

If the T/C was off but there wasn't an ABS fault then yeah it's having a bit of a moment and will probably be fine after a drive / restart etc.

When I had an ABS sensor out I had ABS warning light and T/C permanently off.

As I have EFI Live I actually tweaked the map on mine, there are thresholds to set when the T/C is allowed to act, there's a minimum rpm (default is about 850 or something) to basically stop it trying to pull power out if the engine is idling, I set that minimum rpm to 8,000 thumbup

Worked a treat as if I forgot to press the button to turn it off after starting the engine, all that would happen is the wheels would spin happily and it'd flash 'Low Traction' on the dash whilst doing absolutely nothing about it hehe
