Interior refresh
Discussion
Just finished up a little tidy up on the interior of my GTS
I’d previously done some bits like the hydro dipped dash, ,and door leather and gear gaiter with yellow stitch(these are from a U.K. supplier on eBay)
Back in October after all that rain I found quite a lot of water under the carpet, which had come in from the door membrane.
So I decided to pull it all out for a proper spruce up.
I used some spare vinyl wrap to replace the door membrane, and pulled the carpet out. It took 3 weeks to dry out as it’s foam backed. I then jet washed it and dyed it black.
Really lifted the interior, and it spurred me on to do another interior job I’d been wanting to do, which was to de-hearing aid beige the pillar trims and headliner.
It all comes down easily enough. The worst job being scraping off the old foam off the fibre board.
I found a wire brush bit on a drill worked best.
Then onto sticking on a new piece of foam backed faux suede to the fibreboard.
This turned out mint.
Next was to flock the pillar trims. This was done with a kit from internet, and in hindsight, I’d have them sent off, as it’s very difficult to get an even coat of the fibres, and you can only do a section at a time as the glue dries fast.
I also found it best to paint the trims black first ,as then the unevenness doesn’t show. When upside down against the light it looks perfect, so not an issue really when it’s in the car.
Really pleased how it came out. Definitely an improvement, there was just too much dull 50 shades grey before. I’ll possibly get the seats Re-done black at some stage too, but they look decent for now. The seats are bloody heavy, but super comfy.Long gone are my days of stripped out cars on the road.
My wheel has been in the car for a few years, but I’ve probably not shown a pic. Yes , I did get gold plated bolts, coz I’m a slag.
Also I changed the gear stick a few years back to a nice ball style one.
Anyone got any info or ideas about finding black sun visors and handles, I’d appreciate it .

What seats you guys got, are they standard? I like the look of the head rests in yours Fred. Also SturdyHSV yours look a lot more bucketed.
Would love a smaller steering wheel and deeper seats but don’t want to loose the electric seats. Think I could live without steering wheel controls. Find the standard steering wheel very big when sliding

Mine are Cobra Misano Lux, they ended up being the '20th Anniversary Edition' which meant the diamond quilting, I didn't actually order those but liked them when they turned up. They have Monaro stitched in instead of the 'Cobra' logo, it's not exactly the same font as it can't be a trademarked logo, but it's similar enough.Would love a smaller steering wheel and deeper seats but don’t want to loose the electric seats. They're now on manual slide mounts and a 'Planted' frame from the US so that they sit really (REALLY) low which is great. Originally they were installed (with some fabrication) on to the factory bases so still had tilt and forward / backward adjustment but meant they still sat annoyingly high up.
They transform the feel of the car, it felt like I'd had new suspension put on when they were done. Naturally less pillowy than the factory arm chairs though.
Manual backrest adjustment obviously, and they tilt forward via a bar at the bottom. Access to the back is far quicker and easier simply because the seats are so incredibly thin that you only need to tilt them to get in, none of that annoying electric movement to wait for. Also the rear leg room is now comical

With the after market steering wheel is it easy enough to make the horn work with the centre button? I have a steering wheel and boss in the cupboard that I haven't got around to fitting yet.
Yep, the horn is just a ground loop so that's simple to do.EDIT:
Found some really old pics on PH from when they were first installed, rear legroom (I'm 6ft so seat is 'reasonably' far back)
Can compare the bolster height against the trans tunnel on the factory bases compared to now, on the stock mounts the bolster was higher than the trans tunnel

Thanks SturdyHSV
No problem, I've previously put all the airbag info and info about the VZClusterMod software which can be used for resetting the SRS light if it triggers into the FAQs I think, but any questions let me know.If you want pictures too just ask, the car is in pieces so it's not really any trouble to take the boss off etc.

Super, thanks. I probably wouldn't be doing it anytime soon as I still haven't got my Ute up and running yet, still need to put things back together. If you want pictures too just ask, the car is in pieces so it's not really any trouble to take the boss off etc.

It's funny over time you'd think I'd learn, one small job snowballs into several other jobs and I get sidetracked then there is bits everywhere! Looks like you're the same. I smashed the windscreen at a trackday in my Chevette then the next thing it was in bits then it had new bigger wheels, bigger brakes, big arches, new cage, new fuel tank, Colour change. Honda S2000 engine, dry sump setup, throttle bodies, new axle etc etc and loads of hours. All from a bloody stone that flew up and broke the screen!! 3 years later It was done, sold it and bought a Ute......

fk me, I hope I don't end up that far down the rabbit hole! I was looking at where I've taken the paint back to rust treat etc on the chassis rails and started thinking "I could get a welder and learn to weld by seam welding bits in the engine bay" but fortunately some semblance of focus crept in!
Lockdown does at least mean there's no missing out with the car not being on the road so it's a decent excuse to get stuff done
