Am I correct in think the following?

Either vxr8 (ve) or monaro, in order to convert auto to manual there would be the obvious pedal box swap, manual box, I’m guessing the prop shaft would be a different length? Clutch, fly etc

Just throwing thoughts around at the moment. I know the obvious would be just buy manual. But every now and again something comes along that ticks every other box, and if at the right price......,

In my opinion it would be very expensive and probably not that straight forward to swap , buy what you can , there is good and bad with both auto v manual , if i had an auto vxr8 and not a manual i would not be that bothered

Probably a lot of buggering about with wiring harnesses, and an ECM that expects to have a TCM to speak to among other things.

Maybe try the Just Commodores forum. If it has been done you might find info on there.

This question get asked a lot over on the LS1GTO.COM forum. for both manual to auto and vice versa. certainly worth a look for a general idea of what's involved.

The wiring harness for the engine is different between a manual and an auto.

Example.

For Australian VZ 6.0 ltr senator/clubsport/gto the front body harness part number 92168475
the engine harness manual part number 92168477
the engine harness auto part number 92168478

For VXR8 there is no point. Good split of auto or manual. Just buy the one you want.

Monaro ere 100% manual in the UK

That said, toying with the idea of a 6L80 into my VZ ute. Mechanically simple enough. And electronics can now be done.

Yes just toying with the idea, and yes the white eBay sparked the initial idea. I would only want a manual, my last r8 was manual. Regret parting with it now. My problem is that I bought that for a tad under 11k, sold it for a few hundred than what I paid for it, on the belief it would be something difficult to move as the market is limited. Less than 6 months on most are 15k upwards either man/auto .

So in reality, unless I’m
Lucky enough to discover a self setting money tree in garden, I can see me waiting on inheritance

It's my understanding the engine control computery will be different between manual and auto. Engines and transmissions aren't stand-alone units like in times gone by. The auto box and engine management are constantly communicating with each other for management of engine torque during auto shifts, timing of the shifts etc.

If you look at GM's website selling their "crate" engines you'll see the whole thing is slanted towards buying an engine/computer package that's ready to work with the right transmission.

Realistically you'd be into £5-6k in parts....is it really worth it ? And then labour on top of that ?

ECU side of things would be easy, wouldn't worry too much about that

Is there something wrong with the current auto, or just a preference ?
