i have been looking for a replacement T 56 gear box for my old 2004 vxr monaro as the gear box keeps jump out of 1st and 3rd gear ever 1 in 6 times when changing gear and getting reverse gear is pot luck now days
when looking for a company in the uk who could repair the gear box it comes down to getting the parts, which seem to have to come from the states so it will take to long ,
i found this new Tremec T56 f body Gear Box and in the sales information it is say a direct replacement for 2004 to 2006 holden monaro and pontiac GTO .it just sounds to easy ,has any one fitted or is going to fit this new gear gear box and if so does it fit straight in the car or are there any mods or parts needed,
just thought to ask so any input would be well come

F bodies have a different shifter position, so no, it wouldn't just bolt in as the gearstick would be inside the centre console.

This will help explain better than I could:

Could you theoretically take the tail end off your Monaro one and stick it on the F-body one? Maybe? The ratios would be different too, and I believe it's rated for less torque but I can't remember...

Top lurking by the way.

When I enquired about a new box from the states, I was told that the difference was the shifter position as can be seen above (pic 2 and 3).
When they send a new one out for a GTO/Monaro, they simply swap the shifter assembly bit over, so in theory you could do the same.
As above, the ratio's are likely to be different.
When I contacted a breaker for a second hand box price, he wanted £2k plus my old one.
Instead I used AAS to repair my original, been fine since however its done very little miles.

Im sure the internal parts would be useable, even if you cannot just fit the longer shifter. From what Ive seen re-furbing my shifter, those shifters look to be interchangable. The one in the monaro has a link to extend it backwards, the box's looks identical.
Just swap your shifter to the new box.

If the seller says it will fit the monaro, you have the right to send it back if it doesn't. Id get it.

FBody I believe uses a smaller 27 spline output shaft, I think the Monaro is bigger ? Not 100% sure.

But physically other than that yes they are the same. If you wish to use your own Monaro shifter, you will need to swap over your shift cup that the shifter drops into. It's only a dowel pin that holds it into the box.

Internals on an FB-body vs Monaro/GTO box are not the same. The internals will not swap and there will be virtually nothing you could use as spares.

But as a complete unit, very easy to swap.

If you look on the UK FB page there are probably some guys/retailers on there who could repair your own.

options will of course depend on budget, then price of this "new FBody T56" etc....and is it actually new, or not ? as they have not been made for a considerable number of years, so I'd doubt any claims of it being brand new.

If it needs a lot of stuff, and you want a proper upgrade....I'd be buying a Magnum F, But you'd be importing that yourself, or getting someone to import it for you. They're US$3300 which is damn good value. Less so here after all shipping and duties though.
